RE: James B Davisson
Hope what I sent helps. It would be a great story put together from the documents and what the family history left you.

(PS If you go to the edit tab on a memorial, this will bring up the record directly to the manager of that memorial. This is a lot easier than the manager going through all the steps to locate it.)

Or, you could give the memorial number to be sure you are talking about the same person.

I will transfer James to you so you can tweak or add information you may have about him.

James is not related to me, that I know of. So it is better that his memorial be in the management of his family.

Thank you for the inquiry and for finding the memorial for James B.

The information was on his WWI draft card. Usually these were filled out by the person themselves and contain more information that transcribed. These can give some interesting links, like parents' names or wives and if they had dependents or where they worked or what they did. Often, there is even street addresses to confirm information from Census records.

I use Familysearch.org to bring up these documents and if available, the originals can be viewed. This is where I got that Draft record.

(See original for the handwritten record at https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1971-26177-32607-20?cc=19685300)

GPS, Latitude and Longitude
Hi, K., You are right--in these days of GPS tools, that would be a great addition for this hard-to-find cemetery. I'm afraid I don't have access to those devices, but I will definitely keep it in mind as I'm sure I will cross paths with someone there who is hooked up in that way.

BTW, the county historical society let me know that they are not going to do anything on behalf of this cemetery. I'm looking at going up there next week to do some research at the court house (establishing ownership of the cemetery acre) and will proceed from there on the path of preservation. I will keep you in the loop.

Deteriorating State of Pioneer Cemetery
Hi, K., Over Memorial Day weekend I stopped at the old cemetery in rural McDonough County where your ancestor is buried. It's become such a mess and now Sarah Buzzard's stone has been toppled over by cows that broke into the cemetery. I made a blog to document the damage and included all the photos I have of interments there. I thought you would be interested:

The local historical society there has heard from several of us with relatives buried there, but seems like they are turning a deaf ear to our input and concerns.

I thought you might want to have the editing rights to these three memorials of your family members! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you while you are here at FindaGrave. Enjoy!

Buzzard Family
Hi, K.--The Pioneer Cemetery (now called "Cost") where the Buzzards are buried was established on land first purchased by my ancestor, Greenup McClure. That little acre became one of the local burying grounds in Bethel Township of McDonough County. Most of the folks in there--the McClures, Venards, Wilsons, Thompsons, etc. are related to me. This little cemetery is very remote--in extreme disrepair and generally forgotten. A couple of years ago I moved back to Illinois and decided to make it a priority to document all the graves in that cemetery by photographs. That was before I even found this site. And as a historically-minded person, I wanted to connect the dots between the folks buried there--basically to find out who everyone was. So all the contributions in that cemetery are ones I put in. If you read each and every one--you'll see a lot of history of the area and the folks who lived there at the time. I used a wide variety of source documents to pull the info together. Do you have any more info you'd like added? Of course any family photos you have of these folks can also be uploaded. I'm attached to the folks in this cemetery due to time spent there--so would love to learn more about them than I already know. Thanks for asking!
