Bio Photo The Recording of A Cemetery
By Thelma Greene Reagan

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely windswept hill:
Today we talked where others cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreaks of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time:
Lying under the trees and clouds-
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad Lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Note: With the confusion about pictures:::::: Permission is granted for any tombstone picture that I have taken and post to be use on personal web pages, no copyright laws apply to pictures I have taken. The reason we do this is to share. Sylvia Whittaker

My husbands grandmother, sister and mother, saved obituaries all their lives, pasted them in old sears books, they were saved from being tossed out and given to me. I paid my son 1 penny to paste them onto index cards. There are no newspaper names or dates. I've been sharing the information from them as I find that persons burial place. History saved for all, thanks to Rosella, Glover Criss Mildred Criss and Wilma Criss Whittaker

I was given hundreds of old obituaries last year and a few years ago a lady in Wetzel county gave me her book of hundreds old obituaries dating back to 1940's I hope to find a way to put them online, since I don't have enough time in my busy life to type them all.

I recently realized that I can't add the obituary information or copies of them and thus I'm going over all my past post and removing all information and donating the old/papers articles to genealogy societies or libraries if they will take them. So it looks like 100s of the years of history saved will have to be found for some another way.

Sylvia, I don't know if I passed this info to you or not. Just sent this message to Kelley Bean about the photo obit on this memorial:
Kelly, I don't know if I passed the word to you or not about obits added as photos. A researcher in Iowa advised me Find A Grave has begun deleting them and they lost about 70% of theirs. Just noticed this one so thought I would pass this along in case you want to retype it in the bio section.

RE: Mariah Funk Wright
I am sorry it has taken me so long to answer. I had knee replacement surgery and had not viewed my emails for a while. I was researching my dad's family from W. Virginia. His mother's maiden name was Dela Mae Rush. I believe I had researched back to find Mariah was one of my great grandmothers.

I am a bit confused about the information that you sent to me. Would you like me to transfer management of William, Thomas & Edna to you so you can make the corrections and additions? By the way, their story is very interesting.

Thanks for your input! I have added it.

I was sorry to read of your inability to add your incredible collection of clippings to entries--they are invaluable sources of accurate data! You could try fold3, formerly You could upload them there I believe--it too was purchased by ancestry years ago- try it at your library if you dont have your own subscription yet.
