Bio Photo My love of history began in grade school and has intensified over the years. I am an active member and volunteer at the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. Several of my articles have been published in their "Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage" magazine.
I have also written several books telling the stories of some of my ancestors. Two of my books, "Annie's Day of Light" and "A Home for Sarah" are available from Masthof Press in Morgantown, Pa.

Six other books were published by Christian Light Publications. The most recent one is a book of stories for children titled "Esther Starts From Home" published in October 2015. They are available from

The main surnames I am researching are Burkholder, Stauffer, Good, and Powell (or Powl), plus many others on a lesser scale. My research is centered mainly in the Pennsylvania counties of Lancaster, Lebanon, and Berks. But I also have a reputation for not being able to travel anywhere without making at least one stop at a cemetery.

Thank you for checking for the headstone of Adam Siegfried. I have made a note in findagrave that there is no stone. Your time was very much appreciated.
Sincerely, Kerry

Thank you for your quick response
I'm not at the cemetery now - I live about 100 miles east of there in NJ. I am, of course, always willing to drive out there to obtain more information (I was at the Historical Society of Berks Co. just a few days ago research Johannes, the elder of the two at the cemetery). I'll look into your citations. As I said, I'm always willing to drive out if I can obtain more information; as someone new the East Coast, I have found information through local research that simply can't be obtained any other way.

Upon further inspection, you are correct, Find-a-Grave memorials 46921758 and 72980189 are different. Part of the confusion stems from the fact that the stones are so similar and, until a moment ago, only one side of each memorial was displayed. (I've just added a photo of the reverse side of 46921758 stone, I don't have the reverse of 72980189).

Additionally, it appears that 72980189 is the son of 46921758. You mention that your info came from "the church cemetery record." Do you have a copy of that record or do you know if it is maintained at the church or elsewhere? I'd like to obtain a copy, if possible, as both Riegels should be listed. I'm particularly interested in finding out if 46921758's wife (72980189's mother), Catarina Elizabetha Schirmann, is listed.

FYI, a transcription of a church record shows that 46921758 and Catarina Elizabetha Schirmann were married on Jan. 9, 1738; the citation is:

Fogel, Franklin Jakob, translator (1896). Records of Rev. John Casper Stoever: Baptismal and Marriage: 1730-1779. Harrisburg Pennsylvania: Harrisburg Publishing Company. || pp. 26, 55. Johannes Riegel. Tulpehocken, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Internet Archive

RE: Hans Zimmerman Lichty Cemetery
Ah, I see. Strassburger's book is a "facsimile" of the original. I will put looking for Volume II at the Lancaster Mennonite Society on my list. Thank you very much...

Sorry, just got back from vacation. I have the book in electronic form and can email it to you if I have your address. I believe it is all three Volumes. Or, you may be able to access the book at this address:

Either way, let me know how I can help you get the book.

Hi Romaine,

Just a quick note to let you know that I have received the information you sent on George and that I've added it to his memorial.

You can download that book from the internet. Some site called "Free Archives". Here is the web address:

Way cool! It showed Niclaus signed the Oath of Allegiance with his initials "NZ" and Hans (16) with an "X". You gotta love the Internet!

RE: Hans Zimmerman Lichty Cemetery
Thank you. Yes, I purchased that book at the Home Messenger Library & Bookstore, which is at the Fairmount Rest Home, Farmersville, PA. Great book and inspired me to do more research on Niclaus (Clause) Zimmerman. Was he really the father of Hans, Christian, Anna and Barbara? I am not sure where to look, but besides researching online, I plan a trip to the Lancaster Courthouse and the Lancaster Historical Society to see what I find. I'll share any results if you are interested.

RE: Margaret and Peter Lebo's Photo Request
Thank you for your generous help. I'd been over the April 1 Reading Eagle searching but didn't find it until I saw your reference to page 4.

RE: Margaret and Peter Lebo's Photo Request
Thank you for the funeral announcement of Margaret. I have, but it doesn't have the Reading Eagle.
