RE: Slemp Memorial Cemetery
Take 58 from Big Stone toward Dryden. Exit on Old 58/Seminary Road for about 1 mile. In front of the Seminary Church, turn right on State Route 708 x about 2 miles. The Cemetery is at the top of a steep hill, gated and locked. This is a google map that may help you: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Big+Stone+Gap,+VA/Slemp+Cemetery,+Big+Stone+Gap,+VA+24219/@36.8132904,-82.8449642,16z/am=t/data=!4m17!4m16!1m5!1m1!1s0x885adbaa56fa075b:0x39eb5b96b1d18ddc!2m2!1d-82.7832489!2d36.8586404!1m5!1m1!1s0x885adecf6354d26d:0xd3ca9f254390acff!2m2!1d-82.8500112!2d36.8147381!6m3!1i0!2i0!3i0

William Moses Slemp
tHANK YOU for your comments regarding the place of death for WIlliam Moses Slemp but I use the last place of residence which was Wise County, VA rather than his temporary visit to a hotel in KY.

Pvt. Abraham Musick Relative.
Hello sir, my name is Kevin Cantrell and I came across your memorial for Abraham Musick (37251733, my third great uncle. He served the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He and third great grandpa Musick were brothers. Three fought for the Union and Abraham for the Confederacy. I was wondering if there would be any way for me to take care of his memorial? If so, I'd appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to make him a page on this site. The family oral traditions about him are fascinating.

Col. May Civil War Photo
Are you related to Col. Reuben May? I have discovered in my grandparents scrapbook a packet of Civil War era photos, with one named as Col. May. When I looked up info. I ran across Col. Reuben and noted that he fought at Vicksburg, and a couple of other battles as my great-grandfather from Wisconsin did. I've tried comparing the photo I have with the one shown on this website, and it does look like him. He is also wearing a sash and has a sword that looks like those shown in another site about him I ran across. I'd like to show the pic. to someone who is related or knows more about him. Can you help me out?

My great-grandfather was Israel Jason Cannon who fought with the 23rd Wisconsin at Vicksburg, MS, and Sabine Crossroads, where he was captured. He died in the Veterans Home in King, Waupaca Co. WI at age 101.
