You are quite welcome Cathleen. I know just how you feel about wanting to know everything about everything. I am the same way. Have you pulled the naturalization papers? There would be a photograph attached to it depending on when it was filed. I don't think that after 1940 they put pictures on them but it is certainly worth a try. Using italiangen.org I put in John Monahan in the Naturalization database. I came up with 10 in the NY area. Two matched your John who was born in 1862 and died in 1907. (John J. Monahan in Vol# 12, Record 486, Date of Naturalization:1898 in the USCD NY Eastern District; John Monahan in Vol# 32&33, Record 207, Date of Naturalization:1902 in the USCD NY Eastern District. I don't know in what state you are in but go to archives.gov (NARA(national archives and records admin website)and hit find locations. Scroll down on the left to find a center nearest you. You can visit it and look at the naturalization papers on microfilm and make copies of them. Take care.
