RE: tree trunk monuments
Thank you, Lois, for the website link. I looked at it a bit and am glad to know what the significance of the tree markers is! I also found on another website...'this motif is widely found just before and after the turn of the twentieth century. These markers signify being "cut down in the prime of life." Sometimes broken limbs have significance. Ivy and ferns growing from the base both signify everlasting life in herbal lore.' Nevertheless, they are beautiful monuments! Thanks again! :)

RE: tree trunk monuments
Hello Lois,

I do not know the significance of the tree trunk memorials. I am a little curious about it as well. If I find out, I will definitely let you know! I have seen quite a few of these headstones in this area and eventually I'd like to take more photos of them as I find them quite beautiful! Take care and thanks for the note! :)
