|Minister Derek Boyd West||Trying to connect memorials|
The first memorial i am trying to connect is of Dewey Foster Baldwin, who's memorial i created. He is buried in Laurel North Cemetery in Laurel, Indiana, in Franklin County Indiana. I had previously seen his parents memorials on here i believe, but i have been unable to locate them to link to him. His parents were Dewey Baldwin and Birdie (Marcum) Baldwin, and i am not certain of their burial, but i believe them to either be buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana, in Franklin County Indiana, or buried in Dale Cemetery, Connersville, Indiana, in Fayette County Indiana. Also he has a brother named Orville Baldwin, and i believe he is also buried in Dale Cemeteery, in Connersville, Indiana, in Fayette County Indiana. Dewey Foster's mother, Birdie (Marcum)Baldwin was my Dad's, Mom's, Mom, Daisy (Marcum) Burch's sister. And then the other one that i was wondering about is i made a memorial for Earl Verly Reese, who's buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, i believe, in Brookville, Indiana, in Franklin County Indiana, and i linked him to his Dad, Verly Earl Reese, who was buried in a cemetery in Tennessee, and i am now trying to find his mother, Mildred Reese, who is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Brookville, Indina, in Franklin County Indiana. Her maiden name was Nobbe, and i done a search of the entire cemetery, and was unable to locate her memorial, so i am assuming that she does not have one made on this site. Also i was trying to locate where Verly Earl Reese's parents are buried to link them to him. Their names were Ollie (Marcum) Reese, and her husbands name was Richard Bennett Reese, and i am assuming they are also buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Brookville, Indiana, in Franklin County Indiana, but i am not sure. They were residents of Franklin County at the time of their death. Ollie (Marcum) Reese, was my Dad's Mom's Mom, Daisy (Marcum) Burch's sister.

Those names i mentioned were siblings and descendents of Harriett (Johnson) Marcum's sons and daughters. I do not know anything about any of Randolph Powell Marcums family, or of Harriett (Johnson) Marcum. Her and Randolph Powell are buried here outside of Brookville, Indiana, in Franklin County, at Maple Grove Cemetery, off St. Marys Rd. I will ask around, and possibly i can get you some answers on them. I wish that my Grandma was still living. As a child i was very interested in talking to my grandparents about their ancestors and what life was like. Thank you for your info that you gave me also.

Sorry about leaving this message publicly on here. Your email's that it tried to send my response to, there was 2 of them, and i kept getting a delivery failed message on there, but i wanted to be sure to get you what little i do know about the marcums. And also, the draft card and death certificate for my great great uncle Sherman Marcum, it wouldn't let them open, probably because of the format. If you can, please resend them as a .jpeg format, because i am assuming the format is why it is not allowing me to open them.
My maternal great grandmother was Daisy (Marcum) Burch. She was married to my great Grandfather Riley Burch, i am not sure what year they were married. Daisy and Riley had 12 children. Virgie, Edith, Robert, Martha, Mary, Inez, Lean, Fern, Lucy, Tom, Dale and Dewey. My grandma was Mary. Mary (Burch) West. Grandma Mary was born in Sextons Creek, Kentucky, on February 3rd, 1927, and she passed away on February 11th, 2013. The Burch family, Daisy (Marcum) and husband Riley and kids, moved from Sextons creek Kentucky, to Youngs Corner, Indiana, a little country town outside of Brookville, Indiana in Franklin County, in 1934, when my grandma Mary was 7 years old. Great Grandma Daisy died at home in youngs corner Christmas Eve night, in 1942, of a brain aneurysm. Daisy (Marcum) Burch and Riley, along with most but not all, of their children are buried in Maple Grove Cemetary, just outside of Brookville, Indiana, in Franklin County, off of St. Marys Rd. Daisys mother and father originated from Clayborne ?(Spelling) county Tennesee, before coming to Sextons Creek Kentucky. Great Grandma Daisy (Marcum) Burch's mothers name was Harriett (Johnson) Marcum, and her and her husband, along with great grandma Daisy, and Great grandpa Riley, and many of my great aunts and uncles are buried here at Maple Grove Cemetary. My Grandma Mary, was the last surviving child of Daisy and Riley (Marcum) Burch, and as far as siblings of, other children of, or nieces, nephews or cousins of Harriett (Johnson) Marcum, i don't know where they lived and are buried, and the only family that i know i still have is a cousin named Mamie, and her married name is Reed, and she lives outside of Tyner Kentucky. I don't know Mamies maiden name, but her mother was a sister to Great grandma Daisy (Marcum) Burch, so Mamies mothers maiden name would have been Marcum. Mamies mothers name was one of these three names, i am not sure which, because of the way that my grandma pronounced her name, it was either Lowery, Lorrie or Laurie, i think it was Laurie, and i don't know what her married name was either, but other than Mamie, i don't know any of my Marcum relation that is still in Kentucky. My great Grandma Daisy (Marcum) Burch, had a sister named Ollie (Marum) Reese. She married a man named Bentley Reese, and they lived here in Franklin County, Indiana, but i do not know for sure if they are buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery or not. I have not been able to find Great Great Aunt Ollie's memorial on this site. Great great aunt Ollie and Bentley, had children, but i only know two of their names. There was a Verly or verley or verlie, not sure on the Spelling, Reese, and a Verlon, Verlin or verlen Reese. Virley married Mildred (Nobbe) Reese, and had children, Bud Virley Reese, Gary Reese, William Bernard Reese, Lois (Reese) Callihan and their youngest brother, Steve Reese, was paralyzed and committed suicide.William Reese, which is my great great aunt Ollies grandson, is my cousin by blood on the Marcum side, and he is married to my moms sister, so he is my blood cousin and uncle by marriage. Then Daisy and Ollie had another sister, who's first name i am unsure of, but she married a man by the last name Baldwin. Her and the Baldwin man, had children, but i only know two of their names. The first is Forrester, foister or foster Baldwin. I believe Forrester, but my grandma didn't pronounce it properly, so i am not sure. I believe he is still living, and he lives in Fayette County, Indiana, outside of a little town called Alpine. Then Forrester had a brother, who is passed away, who's name was Arville Baldwin,, who was from Connersville, in Fayette County Indiana. Forrester had a sister who's name was Dorothy (Baldwin) Kersey. She was married to Obie Gilbert Kersey, and he is passed away also. Their childrens names are Lois, Fran, Bonnie, John, Roy Gilbert and John Kersey.Roy Gilbert married my moms sister Nancy, so he was my blood cousin and my uncle by marriage as well. My aunt Nancy is passed away. Roy and Nancy Kersey has three sons, Roy Jr., Tony Kersey, and Terry Kersey, and Terry has 3 sons. Their names are Austin Kersey, Avery Kersey and Alex Kersey. Sherman Marcum, was an Evangelist,and was Laurie and Daisy's and Ollie's brother. I don't believe he ever moved to Indiana. There are lots of the original Marcums or Burch's buried at a family cemetery in Sextons Creek ,Kentucky, but i don't know if it is the Marcum's or the Burch's. I will try to look into that. That is basically everything that i know as far as Marcums. There are a lot of Marcums here in Franklin County Indiana, and i do not know if they are any relation or not, but my cousin Danielle was married to one of them. Most of them lives in Laurel, Indiana, which is also in Franklin County.

I was curious if you know anything about Daisy having a preacher brother named Sherman. My Grandma spoke of him, but i can't find him anywhere. I know that he was a travelling evangelist, and i don't know that he ever married or had kids. I don't believe he did, and i have no idea where he was buried. If you have info on him, i would appreciate it. Sherman would have been my Paternal great, great uncle. He would have been my dads, moms, moms brother. My name is Minister Derek Boyd West, and my dad is Bobby Lee West, and my Grandmother was Mary (Burch) West, and her mom was Daisy (Marcum) Burch. I believe that Sherman was her brother. I take it that you must be related in some way or another, having contributed to the Marcum memorials and your name being Marcum. Thank you for any information you may have. God bless you. Minister Derek Boyd West.

I don't know of any way to get to it from the south (ridge) side of the river. We launched a canoe upriver on the north side near where Martin's Creek enters the river and floated down until we saw two old overhead cables from an old swinging bridge. Then, of course, had to paddle back upstream. Don't know if this helps much!!
