|The Lady in Black||RE: William C Cook|
No relation. The symbol is for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal organization like Masons, Elks, or Moose. It is three links, sometimes with the initials FLT (Friendship, Love, Truth.) You can read more about them here:
On that page, the second symbol is Daughters of Rebekah, which is the women's auxiliary. Now men can join that as well.
My ancestors were members of the Odd Fellows or Masons; sometimes both. You see a lot of Odd Fellows at Woodmere, mainly because there used to be a lodge very close to the cemetery. It's now a recreation hall (after my great-granfather retired, he was the caretaker there for many years.) If I enter a photo for someone that happens to have that symbol on their stone or monument, or one of the other fraternal organizations, I leave it as a token. I do searches when getting ready to post photos, and that's probably how I found his.
Hope that helps,

You're going to hate me - but all the photos you just submitted for me are upsidedown!!!
I can change them but then your name would no longer be attached.
