RE: Matthew Porteous
Thanks ... finding much confusion re children of Matthew Porteous! His death reg. lists him as single, but recent contact is confirming Jessie as his daughter (distant cousin of Jessie's husband). 1871 census lists David & William (using Kennedy surname) living with Matthew & his parents & siblings along with a 4 year old Mary Manning. 1881 census lists all 4 children (using Portous surname) with Matthew & his sisters. No spouse on either census, no marriage or birth regs. located, but David & William both listed as 'son' on 1881 census. (Agreed your Mary is different person.)

Thomas Walter Gaffney
Thomas Walter Gaffney, Jr., the last child born to Susanna and TWG, SR was my grandfather. When Susanna died, the children were sent to Washington State to live with his sisters in Kent Washington. I knew James and met another of Grampa's sisters but I don't remember who she was.
My grandfather married, had two daughters and one son. His wife was Genevieve G Whalen. His children were Mary Margaret 1920-2000, Elizabeth 1924- and Thomas Walter Gaffney jr 1929-1959. Grampa lived in Nome during the Gold Rush, Cordova Alaska and Seattle Washington before going into business in Ketchikan Alaska. He had a Mens clothing store. Gaffney's Men's Wear. The store actually started in Nome in the early 1900's. He was living in Seattle when he died in about 1967.

Thomas Walter Gaffney
Thank you so much. He is my Great Grandfather and he left his children when his wife died and we have always wondered what happened to him and if my Grandfather had any 1/2 siblings. This has answered so many questions for us!!!

Sadie Hughes
In your recent request for a photo of Sadie you asked about Maitland Sanford and John Hughes.

I have pictures of all possible stones around Sadie and but do not have one for John H Hughes. It may be a temporary stone that became burred. I was asked, told not to dig up or uncover any headstones while taking pictures.

I did find a picture for a Maitland Sanford, 1869 -1904 Let me know if you are interested in this Maitland. Sanford and Hughes are not in the same section of the cemetery.

Margaret Scott
The dates you have for Margaret's birth do not match the cemetery age at death or her death certificate which may be why it doesn't look like she is buried as Lake View.

Their Margaret Scott is in the same lot as Richard, Hattie, Alex, John, and Martha. Only Martha and Alex have headstones.

I can't find why in the world I entered her parent as such when the death certificate clearly shows your entry as correct. I will remove my entry and I thank you for the heads up.

Our own Farnum family has some kind of connection with the Scotts who were in Crawford Co Indiana early so any time that name comes up I am on high alert.......

Be safe,
Carolyn
