I am a historian, genealogist and I write for our Foundation's three blogs on the subject of the West Indian People of Panama and all of its historical, cultural and political aspects.|
My husband and I started these sites as a result of our earlier visits to the Heritage Cemeteries in Panama where most of the Silver Roll workers and their families are buried.
The Silver Roll was part of the thousands of workers and bosses who made up the segregated system known as the Gold and Silver System of the Panama Canal Zone. The black West Indians made up the majority of the Silver Roll and hence have left an important and indelible cultural stamp on Panamanian culture and history. You can read more about it in our blogs:

Dear Mimosa, I was wondering if you had more pictures of Aminta Hairston. If so I would really like to see them. My mom was an extraordinary women to me. Seeing her in those pictures allows me to put more to the stories she told us when we were younger. So if I had more pictures I could pass the stories down with a visual piece, that I believe would make more of an impact. So if you could let me know either way I would truly appreciate it. Thank you for all you have already done for her and us. By learning where you come from really opens life up. I'm on my way back to school this spring. I have written my whole life. And I would love to tell my mom's story.I will check back soon. Again thank you so much!

Thank you so much for the work you do and the people that can be found on here from panama I hope your work continue to help people like me tell the legacy of the silver people to my kids to let them know where they came from thank you.

I am glad that I could be of assistance! During my time in Panama, I have made an effort to document the resting places of notable Panamanians, specifically the presidents. This journey through the rich and complex history of the Republic of Panama has been very rewarding. Feel free to visit my page where I have authored or contributed to 19 presidents (virtual cemetery), 5 archbishops, and others. I have a number of other burial locations documented and photographed but yet to be added. Thank you for your comments! Nice to meet you!
I've added you to my list of Friends (I hope you dont mind) . I enjoyed your list of the People of Panama..My family is from Colon, Panama. The Last name is Lan.

|GLENN||ROBERT McVEAN GRAVE|
I got the picture you requested for Robert McVean. However he is not buried in Pinelawn Memorial. He was buried as a veteran in Long Island National Cemetery. (The two cemeteries are neighbors.) Also note according to the stone, his DOB is March 8, 1888 and DOD is
Feb. 1, 1961 if you'd like to update the memorial.
Have a good one...
