Beatitudes of a Family Genealogist
Blessed are the great-grandmothers, who hoarded newspaper clippings and old letters, For they tell the story of their time.
Blessed are all grandfathers who filed every legal document, For this provides proof.
Blessed are grandmothers who preserved family Bibles and diaries, For this is our heritage.
Blessed are fathers who elect officials that answer letters of inquiry, For--some--they are the only link to the past.
Blessed are mothers who relate family traditions and legends to the family, For one of her children will surely remember.
Blessed are the relatives who fill in family sheets with extra data, For them we owe the family history.
Blessed is any family whose members strive for the preservation of records, For theirs is a labour of love.
Blessed are the children who will never say, "Grandma, you have told that old story twice today."

I have a hope beyond the grave – that someone on earth might remember me.

I am getting ready to submit the DAR app for Lazarus Dodson. Wish me luck. With the few records for Claiborne Co, TN I just hope it flys.

Just a big thank you for the work you have done and the old photos you have posted! I am wondering if you have anymore old Gill or Young photos. I am descended from Henry Albert Gill son of William and Rhoda Gill son of William and Susan Gill. Looking forward to hearing from you...Ilene Jeffers, Greenville, SC.

|Sherrill Mulkearns||Thank you!|
I am Sherrill Pulley Mulkearns, granddaughter of Inez Bowman Talley, and great-granddaughter of Mary Leona Sherrill Bowman. I very much enjoyed the pictures of my great aunts and uncles, some of which I have never seen. I also had not seen the photo of Elbert Bowman and his wife Mary standing beside the car. Thank you so much for posting these! I am wondering about your connection in the family.
Memorial #74867087, Lazarus Dodson, buried in Cottrell Cem, Claiborne Co, TN.
Are you related to this Dodson line? I am doing a DAR App for someone on this line, and wondered where you got the info on his bio. Is it from the Dodson/Dotson Fam of North Farnham Parish, VA?
No one around here has that book, and I wondered if you had it and if it gives Lazarus children or will.
Also small world, thanks for mentioning the Clinton Slayton, Roots Web Guide to Descendants of Arthur & Rachel Slayden. His guide is updated weekly with any new information as we try keep it "factual" with the help of other Descendants and actual sources. Contact him or email me for more on Lucy Slayden Dodson.
I am from this Arthur and Rachel Slayden line, he is from the Slayton line of South Carolina and we have a DNA project on these names. And no, our DNA does not match even in Kentucky.
I am not a Dodson descendant.

Cool, great to meet you. Love finding family we never met. He is my husbands grandfather. Small world. Would you consider transfering his memorial to us?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Susan! That was very kind and much appreciated!
|Farm Girl from MO.||RE: Sabra Dodson|
No there was no birthdate in the obituary. It did say she was born in Mendon but it did not say what state. She died in La Plata, Macon County, MO. Thanks for asking for more but this is all I can add at this time. If you would like a copy of her complete obit. you can try contacting the La Plata Public Library, La Plata, Mo. They have an internet site and can supply a copy of her obit for a small fee if you wish to add it to Sabra's memorial.
