The way I see it, my memorial is not a duplicate as it's an absolutely correct and actual burial location in a cemetery that actually exists with a correctly spelled name. Whomever added the other memorial obviously doesn't live anywhere near here and they played guess-a-grave and created their very own cemetery using a cemetery name that they found in an obit or from hearsay and even misspelled Mr. Johnson's first name.

Bend Cemetery has NEVER been officially called Steely, Steeley or Bilsland cemetery, which are archaic, unofficial, local nicknames for Bend Cemetery. The proper official name has ALWAYS been Bend Cemetery. People playing Guess-A-Grave and Make-Up-A-Cemetery is creating a real problem with duplicates. All seven of those "Steely Cemetery" burials are also listed in Bend Cemetery, which is where the burials actually are.

In Fountain County we have a big problem with folks who aren't local ignorantly adding folks to the wrong cemeteries or creating cemeteries that don't exist. Bethel Cemetery at Attica is full of names of folks who are actually buried in another cemetery called Old Bethel about twenty miles South of Attica in the opposite end of the county. The person who added Old Bethel wasn't from anywhere near here and they decided to name it Southwest Cates Cemetery, which it's NEVER, EVER been called and still isn't today. If you asked anyone in this county where Southwest Cates Cemetery is you'd get nothing but a blank stare but once you explained the location they'd say "Oh..you mean Old Bethel".

We've asked Find-A-Grave to fix these things for almost two years and we finally gave up. Apparently folks who've never been to Fountain County think they know more about our cemeteries than those of us at the Fountain County Cemetery Commission and the Fountain County Genealogy Library do. Find-A-Grave has issues with inaccuracies that they need to address but apparently they don't care.
