RE: Grady L Floyd.
Hi Teresa.
I just did a quick search to see if I could find Grady's middle name and I happened upon this legal document. It doesn't answer the question about his middle name, just interesting. If Grady was in the military, chances are good that you would find his middle name there.

RE: New to site and need directions to Slate Hill Cemetery
I did have the Johnson book you are referring too. However, it was lost in a house fire of my ex-husband's house. I didn't realize I had left the book at his house. I would love to find another copy of it. My aunt, Janice (Gentry)Todd (Hester Lee Shoemake's daughter) I believe has a the book.

RE: New to site and need directions to Slate Hill Cemetery
I sent you a friend request on FB. I didn't find a place to type "Galen" so I sent you a pm also to let you know it was me. LOL!
My line runs Galen Johnson, Solomon Johnson, Robert Monroe Johnson, Etta Lee Johnson (married a Shoemake), Hester Lee Shoemake (married a Gentry){my grandmother; deceased}, Jimmy Marion Gentry {my father; deceased}. So from the line, I'm guessing that my gg grandfather Robert Monroe Johnson was your gg grandfather's brother.

My husband and I visited Cool Springs UMC last week to see the graves of Solomon and Eglentine. I will definitely try to find out how I can visit Slate Hill Cemetery as well. We live in Tallapoosa, Georgia, which is only about 30 minutes from both of those cemeteries.

It is great to find long, lost relatives. I love researching my family history.

Love and blessings to you!

RE: Cool Springs Methodist Church Cementry
Hi Teresa,

I'm glad you like those pictures. To answer your question about the church listing, the church is actually located in Randolph County, but on a Heflin mail route. That's very common for property located extremely close to the border line of Randolph and Cleburne County. If you want to do a quick search on this church in the future, it is listed under Randolph County. By the way, if you ever happen to be in the area at any time, church services for Cool Springs is at 9:30 every Sunday.

Solomon Johnson
Hi Teresa, I'm a bit confused regarding Solomon Johnson's memorial page. Both his larger tombstone and his military tombstone has his birth date as May 18, 1823 and death date as June 10, 1901, but you have his birth date as May 23, 1822 and death as July 16, 1901 on the memorial page for him. Why the different dates? I don't understand?? What were your sources for the different dates? Thanks so much for your time......Lynda Davis Brown

RE: Johnson Line
Solomon Johnson (1823-1901) was Vallorie's 4th great grandfather. Vallorie has a sister but no brother. Vallorie did have a male son. None of these individuals are Johnsons.

The line progresses this way:
Solomon Johnson (1823-1901)
Mary E. Johnson (1846-1868) married William A. Cochran
John T. Cochran (1868-1945) married Louisa T. Hill
Eva Cleo Cochran (1906-1989) married Luther J. Holcombe
Eva Thelma Holcombe (1926-2011) married James T. Slate
Darlene J. Slate (1955-2003) married Richard Alan Wood then Chappel
Vallorie Ann Chappel was the daughter of Richard Alan Wood but was later adopted by Chappel. She married Nicholas Barnes and they are the parents of Oliver Nicholas Barnes.

I hope this is helpful.

I have started a family tree for Vallorie on It is the Chappel Family Tree. My user name is chwg5537

What is your user name on

I would love to view your tree.

Talk to you soon,
