I grew up in Jackson Co., MI on the northside of town. Most of my grandmother's (on my mom's side) descendents orignally settled in that area. The Smith, Hatton and Barnes families came from England to NY and then eventually settled in the Rives Jct/Tompkins area. The Oesterle (Frey and Ziefle) family came from Germany to NY and settled in Chelsea, MI; while the Stull (Lutz, Cover & Spayde) family came from Germany >PA >OH and then settled in MI.
Most of my grandfather's (on my mom's side) descendents remained in AR, but my grandpa along with his parents (Ratliff) and siblings migrated to MI in the 1930's; his Uncle Grace's family moved there as well. Grandpa's descendents migrated from TN >NC >MO and then into Arkansas prior to the Civil War (Campbell, Brown, Lundy, Kerr & Underwood).
My father's side of the family originally came from England. The Comstock's, (Clarke, Snyder, Hilliard, Thorpe, Holmes, Jones, Daniel & Elderkin) were some of the first to settle in Plymouth colony, MA. They then migrated to CT/RI/NY before making their way to the Parma/Springport area of Jackson County, MI. They were among some of the first families to live in MI.
Find-A-Grave does a great job. It has been my privilege to contribute information or photos when I can. I've contributed family information as well as adding memorials & photos locally from the Warsaw, Kosciusko Co., IN area where I currently live. However, it has appeared that Warsaw is well covered by volunteers, so I have branched out to the surrounding county of Wabash and will likely visit Whitley & Marshall counties in the future.

Thanks for the corrections for Martha Armstrong. I think there may be a mistake in the dates of marriages somewhere; you stated that her first marriage was in 1879 and that her second marriage was in 1873. if you want to transfer that would be great as I am trying very hard to get good info for all the Stoops clan. I can say that all the Stoops in this area are my family some where. And there a lot of them We all fell from the same tree. Must have been a lot of cold nights!! Going thru all the old papers my Grandmother had a lot of good info. Just wish she had save more. I am so fortunate to have a lot of family from Wabash Co., not just Stoops, and all the good work the Find A Grave people have done. Great source of info.

Someone else tracking that line was guessing that it is maybe their daughter Katherine since she just disappears after the 1870 census. I was going to go to Warsaw's library to she what I could dig up. I tried in vain last night to find where I had Millie's info written down from a book of obits that I found in North Manchester but could not find the page I had copied. At least it is now making sense how her son Loren ended up in Nebraska just before enlisting in WW1. He was sent to help an aunt out after his uncle died. That is how Millie met Myron when his wife (her sister/aunt) died. Not uncommon in those days when a spouse dies, the widow/widower marries a sibling of their spouse. Crazy things in my dad's side of the family. | | | kelly smith

I may have figured out your mystery of the 4 husbands, but in doing so I have invented a new one. In the 1880 Census for Kosciusko County, there is a Minnie M Schaaf and a Milla Bolton (both age 3) living with Lewis and Elizabeth (Hendricks) Schaaf. Minnie was the one that married Samuel Allen. Milla was listed as their granddaughter (my new mystery). She may have taken on their last name or was adopted before she married Harvey Ashpaugh. So I think she was only married 3 times. My great aunt Clara took care of her in her final years, so I know that Clara would have known if her mother was married to Samuel Allen. It is not the first time I have experienced relatives with simular names getting mixed up, especially when they end up living in the same household at census time. maybe I worded my last message wrong. I am trying to figure out if my Shippensburg Samuel 51121488 should not be connected as a son to the James Hippensteel from Indiana - Memorial# 6705063. Maybe it should be the Indiana Samuel 31740891 (that is Blanche's father) connected as James son. Does this make sense? I just don't know enough about the Hippensteels. Was hoping that you had done more research on them.
