Photo Request
There is no grave marker for Alice Shirley Gilson, (b 1748, d 1842); and the photo for her husband William Gilson's (b 1739 d 1809) grave marker is already present on his FindAGrave memorial. It is a NEW grave marker, probably provided by one of the veterans' organizations, because he was a Revolutionary War veteran. The book titled "The Gilsons on Gilson Ridge" by Maurine Struthers makes reference to William Gilson Jr's grave marker being in 3 pieces - and that's true of many of the graves in that cemetery. William Jr's current grave marker is also new, he was a War of 1812 veteran. Gilson Ridge Cemetery is periodically tidied up, but goes years between these efforts. The last time I was there, about a year ago, it was in terrible shape. I'm not throwing stones at anybody, I've worked to clean up a cemetery myself, but Mother Nature takes over as soon as you turn your back, and she has nothing else to do.
