Always remember to live for the day.|
Don't take anyone or anything for granted.
Listen to the elderly they are wise beyond time.
Take time to enjoy a sunrise, a sunset and watch the bird in flight.
Simplify, simplify, simplify....
I am now living in Cape May County, NJ, and do not have immediate access to NY inquiries like before.
Please help with
"Veterans Grave Preservation"
we are cleaning up the old cemeteries in the area with hopes of documenting all of the American War Veterans buried here in our towns. With the 150th Anniversary of the of the Civil War and the 70th anniversary of WWII, several memorial events are taking place around the country. Boys and Girls Scouts, High School seniors and anyone interested can sign up for community service and give back a little something to those who came before and paved the way. This is our way of saying Thank You and giving respect where respect is due while taking a historical tour back in time. Go to your nearest American Legion or VFW Post and ask if you can help.
I am sure everyone will enjoy navigating the pages of history. Photos and stories, names and dates, friends and loved ones, you will connect the present with the past in more ways than one.
A pleasure ...

Thank you very much for all your help!! I appreciate it.
|Robin Arvickson||RE: Oscar Seaman|
Did you purchase the picture of the grave? The picture of Oscar himself was put on by another contributor and I'm contacting him regarding that picture. I just want to make sure I give credit where credit is due!

I'm working on a volume of grave locations for veterans of Co. M, 15th NY Heavy Artillery. Could I have your permission to use the pictures you posted of Oscar Seaman's grave in this compilation? I will cite you as the source.

Laura, I do not remember if they were side by side - but size, shape, and coloring of stones are similar. My normal methodology for photographing a cemetery is to include a "Family" stone if one is available and then the individual stone - placing both on Find A Grave. I didn't indicate any relationship between Martin Murray or Anna Murray, so nothing was found onsite to indicate there may have been one. I would need to make another trip to the cemetery to find your answer. I am currently out of state for awhile. If you need sooner, I'd suggest a request for photo and include what you are looking for. If you can wait, I will go to cemetery when I return from travel. Good luck with your research - and thanks for being a Find A Grave volunteer.

Hi Laura...Any chance you know where the birthdate for Celia came from? I have a SAR application with her listed with the birthdate of 9 May 1844. I have however, found this application to have other errors on it as well as some correct information, so I am trying to discern which is which.

The birthdate on findagrave for Mortimer was in correct, he was born around 1840 and I have got that corrected. He and his family where pretty easy to follow from New York, through Minnesota to Iowa and ultimately Forest Grove, Or. I am currently trying to find a living relative so I can order a military headstone through the VA.
Also I think Theodore may have been born in 1814 not 1812, records show him being born around 1814-1815.

Someone had sent me a photo of Alfred. My confusion with the Alfred Days is: This Alfred Day is almost the twin of my gr-grandmother Electra Jane Day. Yet, the ages don't add up. I have my Alfred born around 1815 and children born in the 1850s. None of the children are Harvey BUT according to the land records- there was a Harvey Decker "also known as Day". He inherited land from my Alfred Day along with Electra Jane and siblings.
Can this be the right Alfred but the census have the wrong years? My Alfred married Jane Avery. You seemed to have knowledge of the Days from your posting.

I had a little problem finding the cemetery but was so happy when I did. Most of the stones are so very old. I would like to go back and just start taking photo's of all the stones. There are large numbers of differnt families buried there. The cemtery itself was beauitful. Seems like it is being well taken care of. There also are many stones that are beyond readable. I tried to full fill everyones photo request for that cemetery but sadly to say I could not.
I did happen across some of my own family members while I was there. I have a lot of relatives from that area. I am so happy that I could make you happy.
