Bio Photo All are precious in God's eyes and should not be forgotten when they are no longer with us. My mother grew up in Ute, Iowa and moved back in 2004, I have enjoyed learning about my ancestors in Monona Co., and throughout Iowa. My father was from New Jersey & I have been able to trace my family back to Germany. Family names are Dorothy; Booher; Winter; Conroy; Bullington - Niemann and Frey; Schultz; Mueller. Let's get all memorials documented so others can find their relatives.

RE: Lyle Ayers Craycroft
Yes, I think it is the same person and the transcriber who posted on wasn't accurate. As to the surname, I am still working on which spelling is correct and finding the parents.

Thanks for the response, Cindy! I will see what I can find under all the different spellings (which are numerous, ya know! lol). I'm glad to have the spelling that you found. Might be a clue or two there. :)

Lyle Ayers Craycroft
First, I want to thank you for all of your work here at Find A Grave! Like you, I think it is important to memorialize and honor those who have been here before us.

I am very curious about Lyle Ayers Craycroft. I have a lot of data on the surname Craycraft/Craycroft/Cracraft/Cracroft and I can't find any reference to Lyle. I know my data is not complete, so I did an search, and a search and found no trace of him, or any Craycroft in Iowa. I also googled him, and the only hit I got was your memorial. So..... I am curious where you got his information :) I would love to be able to connect him to his family! Thanks for your time!

RE: John A. Downing
Thank you, Cindy, for contacting me. John Andrew Downing is my 2nd great-grandfather. I have researched this family extensively and am aware of the record you mentioned. I have also been to Ute many times and taken pictures of all the family graves. Unfortunately, John's headstone doesn't offer a date, so I had to get several other sources.

If you look closely, you can see that the month has actually been written over, as to correct a spelling. I believe "Oct" was written originally and corrected to "Dec". All family documents state his death as December 4, 1923; I also have his obituary from the Ute Independent Newspaper (that was owned and printed by John's son, William "Bill" Downing) states December 4th; a handwritten obituary from Edna Downing, John's granddaughter, that states December 4th. So, I am pretty confident that the date I have, December 4, 1923 is correct.

If you have any other concerns, please let me know. Thank you for the time you have spent on this work. All time in this area is greatly needed and appreciated. Linda [Cunningham] Day-Emerson

RE: Bernard Clinton
Hi. I went to his memorial to add your info and found that you have a memorial for him at St. Mary's, Ute. Is St. Clarice the same? My memorial was on before yours--but barely--but since yours has a lot of links I will remove mine once the cemetery name is clarified. Thanks.

RE: Edward Workman
Ed Workman married my great aunt Mamie Browning! It must not have been a good relationship as she never provided a marker! Many years ago my father, Waldo Lundeen, located the burial spot with the help of the cemetery sexton. Dad placed a small marker there, but within a few years, it had disappeared.

Ed lies closely my great grandparents, Gilbert & Belle Browning.

(Gilbert died in 1925 and was living in Ute. There is no record of death for him in Monona County. I assume that he may have died in Crawford County since Denison is close to Ute. If you ever run across info on Gilbert Judson Browning, please let me know concerning his death location.

Thanks for all the great work you do in Monona County. I went to school in Mapleton. Small world!
