I started with Find A Grave because I wanted to post my family memorials. As I got active, friends were asking me to do the same for their families. As I would hunt through the cemeteries looking for specific stones, I just figured I might as well take pictures of all of them and post them. In the winter, since I can't be out taking pictures, I post the obituaries from the local newspapers. I look at find a grave as a source for my genealogy search. Because of this, when I post a memorial, I also try to do research on the person to do a memorial, and link with family. I have found that there are some of my relatives still living that have been posted as memorials as "pre-need". I don't agree with that practice. Find a grave is supposed to be a site for finding memorials for the deceased. There for, if there is no death listed on the stone, I do not post it. |
In the forums for Find a Grave, they have this listed "Is it is acceptable to add a memorial for someone who is still living?
Please try to avoid it. In general, we do not encourage adding memorials for individuals that are still living. We do realize, however, that when transcribing a cemetery, it is not always possible to determine if the person is living or not. If it is obvious that they are still living (e.g. "1909 - ____ ), please do not add them to Find A Grave. You are always welcome to create a 'pre-need' memorial for yourself, if you would like."
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Gloria, you posted a photo of my 3rd great
grandfather on 4th great grandfather's memorial
|Ellen Dumas||Robert Eyler|
I think you have transcribed the year of death for Robert Eyler (Louisville Community Cemetery) incorrectly. You have him dying in 1988 but the Social Security Death Index says 1985.

Thank you so much for getting in touch with Kelly. I am so excited to know that I have found my cousins that i have never met before. We are now in touch on Facebook. And its funny you said that Ron was a Fire officer. My dad and his brother too were in the fire brigade in Glasgow. My dads brother stayed in till he retired as a chief.
