Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was born 25 March 1926 and raised near Buffalo in Leon County, Texas, enteresd the army at age 18 in June 1944, stayed in 3 years after WWII was over, was recalled in Sept 1950 for 1 year during the Korean 'police action', went to work for the Polk County (Texas) Enterprise weekly newspaper in January 1952 where I met, working at the Enterprise, Evelyn Townley, married 25 July 1953.
Retired from The Baytown Sun, Baytown TX, in 1979 to these Cherokee Co TX hills and began research on our Durant and Townley family history. (and thoroughly enjoy the surprises we find!!!)
I believe the purpose of Find A Grave is much more than just another list of names buried somewhere - it, I believe, shows (or should show) WHO that name really was.
I know the difference between Family Historical FACT and Family Historical FICTION. And, I believe Find A Grave should be 'nothing but the facts, mam' (If I post it, you can take it to the courts)
Our surnames of primary interest are:-
Durant, Graham, McCanless/McKandles, Reeder, Webb, Page, Rodgers, Parsons;
Townley, Bruce, May, Magee, Lowe, Letney;
and their many affiliated surnames.

Transfer of the Peed memorials...
You can transfer John, his wife, and daughter to me, if you want to. I am not related to them, but I have created over 200 new memorials for the Portales Cemetery since I started walking it section by section. I have 50 to 100 more to create, and am sure I will have many more, since I am only about 1/3 of the way thru it.

I have added hundreds of edits, photos, etc. to existing memorials for people buried in the Portales Cemetery.

Once I am thru, I will find out how to create a 'cemetery' on here to list them all in.

My ID # is 48822065 (I think).

I am curious as to whether you are a 'Peed' relative.

Steve

John O. Peed
His memorial ID # is 91071632. You say his date of birth is unconfirmed. I have been walking the Portales Cemetery and photographing all the tombstones and grave markers I find. He and his wife are buried with their daughter, Mary Addie (Peed) Swearingen. On their common tombstone, it lists his date of birth as February 17, 1882.

I put a copy of the tombstone on all three of their memorials.

Hi Melton,
I have been navigating my way through this site and came across my grandfather (O. C. Rogers) information and would like to discuss adding additional information. This site leaves out a lot of correct detail about his life events concerning descendants. Please contact me.

RE: crowlyn sue durant wandmaker
just out of curiosity, as kids, myself and my friend grew up in Baytown, and we knew Sue when her family lived in Baytown in a two story house with stepdad SL Knowles and her mother and sisters. We want to know what Mr. Knowles name was. We thought SL was a nickname but not sure. My friend remembers him driving a 3 wheeler and there was some kind of accident at the Baytown Laporte tunnel where there was a fatality. When was that? We were young teenagers at the time. They moved away before we got into highschool. We have thought of her many times and talked about getting in touch with her. Unfortunately by the time I researched her , she had already passed away. May I ask what caused her death? She was too young to go. Our condolences are to you and her family.
We remember Mr. Knowles as being tall, slim, with black eyeglasses I think. He was a nice man. I remember something about a horse behind the house. I don't remember much about her mother though.

are you related to Crowlyn Sue Durant Wandmaker?
She was my high school friend and was trying to look her up when I found this find a grave about her.
If you are, do you have any pictures of her?
I and another friend knew her before she moved away from Baytown, TX. Also would like to know the name of her stepfather Mr. Knowles. can't remember it, though I remember him.
Thank You,

I thought she had a son but guess I was wrong.

Calmly Searching
RE: George Ross Durant Memorial
Hello Melton,
Sorry this took so long to respond to. I do not live in Colorado. I did at one time, however. You might want to look up the Cedar Grove Cemetery there in Mancos, and search one of the names there. I read his memorial, when I listed him, and it does state about him being cremated, and later being laid to rest in Mancos. I do know there are 2 cemeteries there, but the name of the other one, escapes me at this time.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
