I got interested in genealogy back in 1977 when I was given a choice to do a term paper or genealogy...this was senior year of HS when ROOTS was a big hit....since then, I have found my Moms Pittsburgh relatives via online resources: Brungger/Brinker family, Andreas arrived in 1724 from Switzerland to Philadelphia , son ( Amer Rev war) Pvt Jacob and his son ( war of 1812) Captain Abraham Brinker, who migrated to Western PA, Larimer, Johnston family from Scotland to Adams and Westmoreland County, Sheriff Abraham McCandless family in Butler PA, Mary Burrell, Matilda Bolton, James E. Cole family from Pittsburgh, and Lousiville KY.
Mom's Irish relatives in Philadelphia and Delaware and St Thomas Virgin Islands: McNamara's, McMahon's, Leonards, Evers/Eivers
Her Northern German ancestors are the Garlings, Widrowskys, Melanders I first traced in 1978 and from online site, I got all the way back to 1400's! They are from island of Fehmarn and Mecklenburg and also have links/spouses from Sweden and Latvia ( which was part of Russia). My Dad's ancestors (his father) are from Amalfi Coast of Italy and his mother Edith RUDDY and her father JAMES RUDDY of Ireland and his Grandmother Mary BARRETT of Manchester, England

In regards to the 3 McCandless residents you have a request for in South Cemetery, Butler, PA...
I am trying to go out to the cemetery sometime soon but was researching our local library for more information first. There are a LOT of McCandless' (even multiple J.W. & W.C) family. Is there any chance you know any of those 3 dates, full names or more information? Thank you!

Johnston @ Harmony Cemetery
Hi Nancy - I am sorry but we are not able help you on this. My sister and I just recorded the whole Cemetery (Harmony) My sister did the photos
and I did the computer. We recorded the info that is on the stone. In this case Mary's said
she was the w/o of John Johnston. There are
10 Johnstons in Harmony, and in an old Cemetery
the families were together. If you can tell
me for certain that John and Mary are not husband and wife, I will change it.
Outside of the above we do not have any
information since we do not have any family in
Harmony. Good luck on your search

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for the message. I actually did not post the information on the cemetery and location of the farm. The user that posted all that helpful information is listed on the memorial pages. I just made the photo request :)

Robert Larimer

Yes, this is very close to Gettysburg:,+adams+county,+new+oxford,+pa&sll=39.804213,-77.066134&sspn=1.97067,3.537598&ie=UTF8&ll=39.894938,-77.114067&spn=0.246019,0.4422&z=11

If that link is difficult, just put in "1535 Hunterstown-Hampton Road, Adams County, New Oxford, PA" into Google.

It's close to our home, too. I picked my 8-year-old daughter up from school and she accompanied me. She loved it as it was like a scavenger hunt.

And you're very welcome. :)

There are lots of African Americans with the name EVERS, so perhaps they did own a plantation. My direct ones didn't come here until the early 1900's.

I add names from the obituaries to help people with their research. Do you know where in Ireland your Evers are from? Mine are from Co. Longford. There are several John Evers in the family.
