I had decided to undertake trying to photograph every tombstone that i could find or know about in the Chickasaw Co., Mississippi area. Now that is about out of the question as i can not get out and photograph for very long anymore.|
If you see a relative that you want to add something to, just click on the edit button at the top right and i will add it. If you want ownership of the person, email with your ID number and i will transfer the person over to you. All i am looking to do is preserve the history of tombstones in Chickasaw Co., Mississippi. Some of them are rapidly fading away.
UPDATE:June 16, 2012 well after about 4 years of photographing stones, we had almost got it done. Now my health is not allowing me to get back out right now, so i have picked up retyping obits from old newspapers. i started in 2008 and have been going backwards. I am now on the year 1958. i will continue to go until have done all the books that i can get a hold of.
Update again: April 11, 2013: Well i am finished with retyping obits out of the Times Post, in Houston, Miss. I started getting the obit out of the 2008 papers and went all the way back to the year 1930. They did not have any of the papers before 1930. I am trying now to link people in Chickasaw county by using Census records that i can find online. I will do this until i can go no further. My goal is to have as many as i can from Chickasaw county linked where i can link them.

I am researching some very distant relatives which I believe Henry to be one of. You have a picture of his headstone and it shows a birth date of July 14, 1900 but no death date on headstone and you made a note on his memorial page that death month and year are from Social Security Death Index. However the SSDI shows his birth date as July 14, 1899 and his World War 1 & Wold War 2 Draft Registration Cards also show his birth date as July 14, 1899.1910 Fed census also very confusing. You can't tell for sure if it says Henry's age is 9 or 11 (it also looks like it could be 19 but that's not possible because his mother would have been 11)It says his parents have been married 10 years so they either got married in 1899 or 1900 depending on the month as the census was May 18, 1910. So if Henry is 11 at the time of this census then he was born in 1899, if he's 9 then he was born in 1900 or 1901 depending on the birth month. I am usually inclined to go with written documents like the draft cards but then the headstone is wrong, any suggestions? Would the cemetery itself have any correct documentation that you know of? Are you related to Henry?
Thanks for whatever help you can offer to help clear up this confusion.

Do you know if the Hollimon surname you have listed is of African American or Caucasian descent? My grandfather was John F. Hollimon born in 1907 Tupelo, MS.

Thanks for the obituary of RB Anderson. I had looked for it online when I added the grave but could not find it. I have added it to his memorial and I appreciate your significant contributions to this website.

|William G. Latham Jr.||RE: Melvin Kelly Brooks|
I will call the newspaper office Monday, thanks for letting me know. I'm sure Melvin Kelly Brooks was a brother of John Wesley & Eliza Louisa "Martin" Brooks. Melvin's pallbearer's were the sons of John Wesley & Eliza. Howard Carter was a brother - in - law, to them.
|William G. Latham Jr.||Melvin Kelly Brooks|
I've noticed you have a memorial for a Melvin Kelly Brooks, buried at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. You listed a obit. for him. I have reason to beleave his name was Mason Kelly Brooks, a brother of wife's Great Grandfather! All of the pallbearers at his funeral were the son's of John Wesley & Eliza "Martin" Brooks. John Wesley Brooks was a brother of Mason Kelly Brooks! I wonder if you still have a copy of his obit.? I would like to see a copy of it, and make sure his name is correct. My wife's uncle Sam Brooks told us many years ago, that his Grandfather John Wesley Brooks brother Mason Kelly Brooks was buried there, but we never could locate a marker for him. Shorty Leroy Brooks was also buried there, he was also a son of John Wesley Brooks.
