I have been doing family history "officially" for about 5 years, but have always been interested in my family's history and genealogy. I have 6 children, but still manage to find time to do lots of research. My kids joke that I like dead people better than living people. And they beg me to not take them to cemeteries on family vacations! :)

Baby Poinier
Thank you contacting me about the year of death for baby Poinier buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Newark, NJ.

The death records for the state of NJ on Ancestry.com and the Family History Library are not totally correct. NJ death records were recorded based on a fiscal year and not a calendar year from July 1878 to December 1900. The death record of baby Poinier was recorded during the fiscal year of July 1, 1885 to June 30, 1886 (and not the calendar year of Hanuary 1 to December 30, 1885). When they transcribed the death records to these websites, they based it on a calendar year. Therefore, all deaths that occurred from January 1 to June 30 are off by one year from 1879 to 1900. Those deaths that occurred from July 1 to December 30 are correct from 1879 to 1900. Ancestry.com and the FHL are both aware of this problem and are in the process of correcting it so they say.

Furthermore, I am related to the Poinier family of Newark and I have the death record for baby Poinier (a stillborn) which states 1886 and not 1885. The burial date in the burial ledgers at Mount Pleasant Cemetery also confirms this year. Thank you again for contacting me.

Mary Blackmer
If you are related to Mary Blackmer of No Brookfield, MA I'll be glad to transfer the memorial to you. I most likely created her memorial because of her beautiful headstone, Alice

Brumagin/Brumagim
Hello, I recently visited Sherman Cemetery and searched for your open requests under Brumagin. I found Brumagim which appeared to be a match, at least for Leverne, however the others in the plot are not yet recorded on Findagrave. I also uploaded for Thayer and Esther and Eliza.

Regarding your photo request for her, it has already been noted on her memorial that she has no tombstone. Another member and myself have both walked and recorded/photographed all stones in this Block, at different times, neither rof finding a stone. Also in this plot are Herbert and Paul Canfield (and possibly Walton) and also have no stones. The best that can be done is to give you an overall photo of the area. If that is acceptable, then please send me a note via the Edit tab on Francis. Otherwise, please delete your request since it is noted on all three that no stones exist for these children. Thank you.

Tapple,
I just can't thank you enough for this request. This is my fourth summer as a volunteer photographer for Find A Grave. I can honestly say that his has to be the "oldest" request I've ever fulfilled.
It just amazes me the technology and transportation used to find and download pictures for a person born in the 1700's. Granted it was late in the century but still....the 1700's!!!
Wow!!! What a great request!!!
Thanks again. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much I did taking and downloading them.

Regards
DDM

RE: Compton graves
Next time I go back, I will try to get a tracing or closer look but most of the older stones in that cemetery are in very poor condition. In fact, the entire cemetery is in poor condition. Its very hard to walk, trees are falling over, tall monument stones are tipped over and there are huge animal holes so you need to really watch where you walk. I'll let you know though.

RE: Compton graves
All of those stones are weathered badly. I used a soft bristles brush even . You should have seen them before I brushed them. Sorry not sure what the inscription says.
