Slanker burials, Doylestown, OH
As it was explained to me, a few years back, in the 1960's or even a bit earlier, the Doylestown Lutheran Cemetery was in a dreadful state. Long neglected, it was overgrown and the gravestones were broken and some were scattered; no longer serving their purpose. To rectify the situation, families of these long dead, were contacted. Each agreed to the removal of the broken stones, with no replacements being made. A full clean up was undertaken and today, the cemetery looks much like a flat tended lawn. One lone stone remains, engraved for Cornelius and Lovett Youngker, whose family was never found. A peaceful, shaded memory garden in the far corner invites visitors to sit and enjoy a quiet moment.
