Bio and Links
In 2009, I began documenting and photographing the graves at Mt. Elliott Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Detroit. There are an estimated 75,000 to 100,000 people buried at Mt. Elliott and while my efforts will not document everyone, I am trying to do my part to memorialize those who are buried there. If you have a correction, addition, relationship link or biographical information to add to one of my memorials, please click on the edit tab and choose the Suggest a Correction option. I will do my best to make changes as soon as possible.

If you are requesting a photograph of a grave at Mt. Elliott and the memorial does not have the plot information, please call Mt. Olivet Cemetery at (313) 365-5650 and get the information, then post that information with your request. The cemetery is simply too large to locate a grave without the plot information.

RE: John Marshall #157966727
Thank you very much for the clarification. I had a problem with the site on my computer a lot of dropped connections today. Sorry. I will try to find plot from them. Appreciate your help.

John Baptiste Marshall Mt. Elliott Cemetery FAG#
I put in a photo request for the gravesite of John Baptiste Marshall buried at Mt. Elliott along with your kind note saying he wasn't buried there and is not on the list of the Official Mr. Elliott Website. Here is the site location:http://www.mtelliott.com/genealogy/?_Tribute_name=John+&_Tribute_name1=&_Tribute_name2=Marshall&cemetery=Mt.+Elliott+Cemetery&year_start=1860&year_end=1990. I also have the death Certificate for him which lists burial at Mt. Elliott Cemetery. He is not listed as John Baptiste Marshall in the records. He is just shown as John Marshall. His parents are in 121-1. I was hoping to get someone to photos for me. I am going to re-request this item on Find A Grave. In the meantime I am going to try to contact Mt. Elliott for the plot information. Thanks for your help.

Johann Gies
Dear Debbie,

Thank you so much for sending me the picture of Johann Gies' headstone. The Gies' seem to be one of the founding families of Detroit, and I am so pleased to have this information.

How did you find it if most of the transcription was missing?

He was my 3rd great uncle.

Denis Kennedy in Mt Elliott
Thank you for the photo. Interesting they spelled his given name Dennis on his stone as it is always Denis, with one N, on most info I find for him. I believe he might be a cousin to my great-grandmother but I haven't established that yet. He might be a grandson to my ggg-grandfather, another Denis Kennedy. The hunt continues!

Augustine and Walda Forster
Thank you for the photos of both of their gravestones. I also want to thank you for the time you took to expose their gravestones and clean them. It is obvious you went above what was asked of you to do this and it is very much appreciated.
Have a happy new year.
