Because of the generous volunteers who have found & recorded my ancestors, I've attempted to continue their kindness by posting more folks.

This website is an excellent source for sharing various pieces of history about those before us. I respect others' contributions and hope you'll respect mine. To the detriment of morale, a minority want to "own" the files on everything they like - then add no additional information to those memorials.

If you'd like to discuss a specific memorial with me, click its Edit tab, then use the 'suggest a correction' link. Note that most edit requests do not require a transfer (i.e. relationship links); the VIRTUAL CEMETERY option exists for collectors. If extremely related, transfers are preferred.

Please contact me if you find flowers or an offsite link I've left that no longer works.

RE: e-mail
Hi Karen,

I do apologize for taking way too long to respond to your previous emails. My Aunt Lynelle is still living and would probably be able to answer the questions that you asked. I will get with her in the next day or two and find out and then let you know.

By the way, Martha married my dad James Owen.

Hi Carla,

You're welcome, and thank you. It would be nice to locate the hubby, but I am sure he will show up one day.

Regards,
Sheila

Hi Carla,

Per your comment; "Mary's mother link fell through though since that lady died a year before Mary was born."

From what I can see, Mary was born in 1857. Her mother, Sarah, #33894486 died in 1866 when Mary was roughly 9 years of age. Are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Thanks in advance for taking another look. Have a good weekend.

Sheila

Loretta Mae Carpenter Bryant
Carla, There should be another update for Loretta's memorial. Find A Grave changed some things around and on your bio page, at the top, there is an "edit" tab and the suggestion should be there (includes parents links). You won't get an e-mail telling you it's there. I guess now, we're expected to remember to look there for updates. Please let me know if you don't find it and I'll resend. Here's the link http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=55672534
Thank you,
Lynne

RE: Regarding Conrad's Civil War Service
Thank you for reminding me. I have deleted the picture. I am not at home right now, but I will crop that picture to remove the GAR marker and repost at my first opportunity.

Regarding Conrad's Civil War Service
According to the National Archives and Records Administration pension cards of Civil War veterans Conrad M. Tharp filed pension application number 1111974, as an invalid, on May 12, 1892 from the state of Iowa. He claimed service in Company E of the 2nd Regiment of the Iowa Infantry. I have been unable to find Conrad in any rosters, and evidently the federal government was unable to find any service records as well. The pension card does not have a certificate number assigned which would have indicated pension approval. The same was the case for Augustus M. Tharp who filed pension application number 1249329, as an invalid, on May 31, 1900 from the state of Iowa, but had no certificate number assigned. On the other hand brother Nathan's pension application card does have a certificate number assigned, 961402, and his enlistment is documented in "Roster and Record of Iowa Troops In the Rebellion, Vol. 1 thru VI" by Guy E. Logan; E. H. English, State Printer; Des Moines; 1908-11.

Thanks for the transfer. No worry about how long it took. We all have lives besides our family histories :-)

ID Military in Westlawn-Hillcrest
We are currently working to identify anyone buried in Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery Omaha NE that has served in the military. If you have a loved one buried there or know of someone, please send us a message. We place flags on the graves for Memorial Day. This project is sponsored by Centennial Masonic Lodge.

If you can send us the names, we will be sure to include them on our list to get a flag.

Thank you for the help with this ongoing project.
