Hey, I posted the two pics that you requested, but took photos of the other Striplin gravestones. I took a photo of every stone in the cem. today.... 342 photos! WHEW! I'll be a few days getting them organized. My Mom had the list saved on her "TANDY" computer. There were a few graves that were not on the typed list. I'm updating the list to a modern computer. (LOL) Please feel free to email me with your address. Once I get the list updated, I'll mail you a copy. My Mom entered some genealogy data if she knew it or could find it, such as the person's father, mother, spouse, etc... It's not just a list of the people buried there, but a history. I could also send you a pic of the Memorial Stone commemorating the Ouachita City Cemetery as "Ouachita City, LA; Circa 1790; First Lasting Settlement on the Ouachita River in Union Parish". The stone was donated by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Bastrop, LA 2009. I'm not sure how interested you are in the additional information. So, if you have questions, let me know. Hi Whitney,
I grew up in Ouachita City and still live only a few miles away. My parents still live there and are in charge of assigning plots in this cemetary. I saw you had a couple of request for photos. I'll try to get those for you this week. I'm going to start photographing all the headstones in the cemetary and posting them on this site. My Mom made a list of all headstones a few years ago, but it needs to be updated. With other things I have going on, it may take me a little time to finish.

 | Your Photo Request for Jannet Sloan
Sort of a good news/bad news report . . .
Contrary to other reports there are some Sloan graves at the Ora ARP Church Cemetery and the inscriptions, while faint, can still be read.
There is one very prominent stone for John Sloan and it clearly mentions the fact that he lived to be 113 years old as per the information on Jannet's memorial. There is no question that this is Jannet's husband. However, adjacent to one side of John's headstone is a planted, unmarked field stone which is in exactly the spot you would expect John's wife to be buried. Then, on the other side of John's gravestone are several (7 I think) smaller stones which appear to be placed as if they were children of John.
This is your call. Do you want pictures of what I have described or shall I take a pass on this one? This cemetery is very close to where I live and I will be glad to take and post the pics but, given the circumstances, I thought you should decide whether or not to proceed.

According to many Spring genealogist, they are supposed to be buried in there. You have to look under alternative ways of spellings etc. I've seen Spring spelled "Springer" and other ways. This is a long time ago. Were you looking under the older records of the church?

We went to East Mound cemetery in Matador to look for the grave of Lewis Newman, but were unable to find it. In the cemetery book, he is listed, but there is no marker on his grave; nor is there one for Gillis Newman or Blair Holliday, brother of Gillis. In each case, there is a notation beside the entry in the list: "(CM)" denoting a cemetery marker. Many of those have long since disappeared, or are bent and broken beyond recognition.
