Bio and Links
Bio Photo Greetings,

My name is Sherry and I discovered genealogy because of a very sad time in my life, the loss of my mother in 2005.

I inherited some paperwork from her things that was passed down to her from her mother and father. Upon going through the paperwork, it opened up many questions for me. Who were these people who were my family, but I knew nothing about? I also discovered that by jumping into these family mysteries, my mind stayed busy and distracted so that dealing with my grief was made somewhat easier.

Well here I am many years later, and not only have I discovered my family roots, but I also delved head on into my husband's roots as well.

I have learned so much about not only both our families history, but about history in general. And I have also met so many nice people and distant family, that I would not have ever met if it had not been for becoming a genealogy researcher. I found that it has become my hobby and a passion of discovery, sorta like a treasure hunt everyday. My journey over the years has opened me up to many possibilities and has taught me to appreciate the most precious gift the Lord has blessed us with, the gift of LIFE!

So the saying that goes like this "When one door closes, another one opens" was found to be very true in my life. Many have opened up for me!

If you would like to take a look at my family trees on the Ancestry.com. site (see below), please send me an e-mail with your request and family connection and I'll send you a personal invite.

"Native American Roots" AND "The many branches of the *FLOWERS* family tree".

My family surnames are:
Flowers, King, Griffith, Oglesby, Norris, Kittrell, French, Bedsole, English, Johnson, Simmons

My husband's family surnames are:
Suarez, Antone, Bloodsworth, Franklin, Morris, Forbes, Hollinger, Stewart, Snowden, Dees

Mvto and God bless!

HI AGAIN
DEAR SHERRY: Hi Sherry! My name is Roxane Evelyn Copeland (Morris at birth) My real father Robert Evans Morris lives in Evergreen, Al. I was wondering are you related to The Barfield's or is your husband related to them? I have been working on them alot lately and I remember that you had a picture of Sarah Elizabeth Barfield. Do you have a picture of her twin brother Charles Aquilla Barfield? I am also trying to find their father James Barfield because it seems their Mom and him dropped off the face of the earth, I know they were not married. If you happen to have any information on the Barfield's I would greatly appreciate any help.
Also my real father is Robert or Bob Evans Morris and his second wife is Betty Criswell. My father's Dad was Carl Manning Morris and his first wife was my Grandma Mary Mrytle Ray(Barfield side) , his second wife was Margaret Fleming. They both lived and died in Dothan, Al. I am trying to find my Grandpa Carl's father and mother, my great grandparents. If you can help me I would greatly appreciate any help at all. With many blessings for a New Year, Roxane Copeland (Morris)

HELLO
DEAR SHERRY: WE HAVE SPOKEN AND WRITTEN TO EACH OTHER BEFORE. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR MY GREAT GRANDPARENTS AND GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU MIGHT HAVE INFORMATION ON THEM OR COULD GET INFORMATION ON THEM. IT WOULD BE SO DEEPLY APPRECIATED. MY FATHER IS ROBERT EVANS MORRIS FROM EVERGREEN, ALABAMA AND HIS 1ST WIFE WAS MY MOM PATRICIA ANN MCMINN, AFTER I WAS BORN ROXANE EVELYN COPELAND NOW BUT MORRIS THEN ON 5-16-1959. MY PARENTS MET EACH OTHER IN ROME, NEW YORK BECAUSE HE WAS STATIONED AT GRIFFIS AIR FORCE BASE IN ROME, NEW YORK. IN 1958 THEY WERE MARRIED AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR I WAS BORN, MY FATHER HAD TO LEAVE WHEN I WAS AROUND A YEAR OLD TO HIS DUTY IN HAMBURG, GERMANY. WELL, MY PARENTS WERE NOT GETTING ALONG AT THAT TIME, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL RECENTLY WHEN ONE OF MY LONG LOST UNCLE'S TOLD ME THAT MY REAL DAD ROBERT HAD ABUSED MY MOM AND ME. MY GRANDMA CATHERINE MCMINN WHICH WAS MOM'S MOTHER, GOT HELP FROM THE RED CROSS AND HAD MY MOM AND I FLOW BACK TO NEW YORK. IN THE MEANTIME , MY REAL DAD FOUND ANOTHER LADY WHEN STATIONED IN GEORGIA AND HER NAME WAS BETTY CRISWELL, WHICH AFTER THE DIVORCE FROM MY MOM AND HIM, THEY MARRIED. THERE MARRIAGE WAS ILLEGAL BECAUSE THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO WAIT 90 DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD REMARRIED IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA. I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT THAT PART ANYMORE BECAUSE BOTH MY MOM AND STEPDAD ARE GONE NOW, I KNOW MY GRANDPA CARL MANNING MORRIS AND HIS 1ST WIFE MY GRANDMA BETTY RAY. THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN, MY FATHER ROBERT E. MORRIS AND HIS TWIN SISTER BETTY MORRIS AND ONE YOUNGER SIBLING WAS JOSEPH MORRIS. BOTH MY GRANDPARENTS ARE DEAD AND BOTH OF THEM REMARRIED LATER IN THEIR OWN LIVES. MY GRANDPA CARL MORRIS MARRIED MARGARET FLEMING OF DOTHAN, ALABAMA AND BOTH ARE BURIED IN DOTHAN , ALABAMA. MY GRANDMA HAD REMARRIED TO MIKE TRAHAN AND THEY ARE BOTH IN THE WELCOME CEM IN EVERGREEN, ALABAMA. I AM TRYING TO FIND MY GREAT GRANDPARENTS AND GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS ON THE MORRIS SIDE ONLY. I HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE RAY FAMILY SIDE. I WOULD LOVE TO FINISH THIS ANCESTRY ON THE MORRIS'S AND RAY'S SO I CAN MAKE IT INTO A BOOK FOR THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND MAYBE EVEN ADD TO A BOOK.

I DO KNOW THAT THE MORRIS'S CAME FROM OTTAWA ALABAMA EITHER IN THE 1930'S OR 1940'S. IT SHOWS THEM IN A CENSUS, BUT SHOWS NO PARENTS FOR CARL MANNING MORRIS, OR GRANDPARENTS. IF I COULD AT LEAST GET THIS INFORMATION IT WOULD BE GREAT AND THE REST WOULD BE EASY TO FIND. PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN, I SEE THAT YOU SHOW UP IN MANY ITEMS AND JUST WANT TO KNOW MY FAMILY.
WITH BLESSINGS OF THANKS, ROXANE COPELAND

RE: French Cemetery
There were others buried there but the head markers which were made of wood are all gone. I was shown where at one time some wooden crosses were .... from the land owners. I didn't get their names but I will find out who they are and let you know so you can in contact with them if you'd like. They also told me of the lady you mention in your information was still alive and lives right up the road from them and the French Cemetery. They told me their are some Confederate Soldiers buried there also from what they've been told. That might be another area you could check into. I'll try to find out more information, so if I find something I'll let you know. This is so interesting to me and my husband and if you need any other pictures just let me know.

Glad to help!
