Buna Gregory
I don't think you understand. I am asking for your help before I can claim your photo request. The online cemetery database does not list Buna as being buried in this cemetery. Do you have knowledge that positively confirms that she is? If so, what is the Addition/Section/Lot/Grave number? I will not claim the photo request if I have to search 15,000+ graves randomly. Regarding the duplicate virtual memorial, I have contacted the person who created both, and she has already removed one of them.

RE: Buna Gregory
Mark - that is kind of you to do the photo request. I am not sure, but for some reason she is listed twice at this cemetery. Her full name is Bunabel Gregory (maiden name is Bennett).

Buna Gregory
I would like to claim your photo request for Buna Bennett Gregory, but Buna is not listed in the online database for the Altus Cemetery at Do you know the burial location? Are you sure that this is the correct cemetery?

Iain MacFarlaine
Greetings from London!
Dear KinFused,

The good news is that Annie and George Pitt are buried together, and the serial number of their grave is 1/2/1219/P. P stands for Private; i.e., they weren't just slung into a pit with a dozen others; so, when I obtained that information from the cemetery office, I had every hope that I would be able to send you a picture of their tombstone.

The bad news is that they haven't got one.

Their grave is not far North of the Islington Chapel, and very near the intersection of Central Road and Stroud's Path. The office were kind enough to give me a photocopy of the plan of Section 1/2 and, if you would like to give me your E-Mail address, I'll scan this for you. Right on the intersection is the large grave of the Davey family; and, if you walk around the corner from that, you can see Lance Corporal Lees (Find a Grave Memorial 4658223) and his brother John (109936041). The Pitts are three graves along and one row in front of the brothers. There are five graves in that row and, from left to right, the names are: Taylor; Peek; Battyll; Pitt (No. 13341; I do not know the first name of whoever is buried there); and Pitt (No. 1219). Unfortunately, of those five, only two have gravestones. Both of them are so covered with ivy that the names are almost impossible to discern, but the name Taylor can just about be made out on the one on the left. From what I could see of the one next to it, the inscription is completely faded, but it must be Battyll, as it is too close to Taylor be a Pitt, but too far away to be Peek. After that, there is a large area of blank, empty space; but Annie and George must be underneath that.

I am uploading a picture of this, in which the two ivy-covered graves can be seen in the foreground; then, the blank, empty space; and, then, the white grave of the Lance Corporal.

What is even more annoying is that Harriet and Samuel Parks were buried in communal graves, so they certainly won't have a headstone; and, although I probably could find out where their sections are, the office has not kept a map of exactly where in each section the communal graves are, so I can't even send you a picture of the spot. They used to dig a hole and wait until they had about fifteen corpses, then covered it up, moved on to the next one, and forgot about them.

I can, at least, tell you the date on which they were buried, and their serial numbers:

Annie: 4th. June 1910, 1/2/1219/P
George: 30th. April 1891, 1/2/1219/P
Harriet: 7th. March 1874, V/2/7898
Sam: 18th. October 1884, S/3/11661.

By the way, you appear to have two identical memorials for Annie Marie (53390558 and 93729193), so you might like to delete one of those.

Better luck next time!

Carrie Stevenson
I went to find her grave yesterday and found one I think is her's based on the information in the "Request Photo" area. Only difference is the name on the stone is Corrie and not Carrie. I've posted the photo to her memorial.
