He sounds like a wonderful man who accepted his crosses in life and met them to the best of his ability. His strength is in you, in the lessons he taught and the love he left. Do not be guilty for not being there, perhaps that was his way of sparing you the sorrow of watching him die. I always knew I would not be there at my dad's last moments. Even though I spent 24/7 with him for 14 days before he died, I stepped out of the room to speak with my sister and he passed away without me. His last few minutes of breath were so laboured and painful, when I saw him he was like a broken sparrow in the bed. I am now glad he did not want me to endure his final moments of pain. Perhaps, this is your grandfathers gift to you. Just remember him with love and you will have honoured him forever. | | | curtis taylor
