RE: Kenneth Hinshaw
Thank you for your response..I wonder why she wasn't buried with her husband Kenneth (maybe she is and they never added her death date..)

Jean Hinshaw
Hello Joan,
I was wondering if you knew if Kenneth Hinshaw's wife Jean was still living? I tried to look her up in California, but some references said she is deceased, and other's says she is alive..?

RE: Melissa R. Brooks
Sorry, I don't. As a one-name researcher with a geographical focus (Brooks families of New England), I receive homemade "digests" of Brooks data from other researchers, whose documentation practices range from diligent to dilatory. This particular compendium was headlined

Sherburne Newspapers. Deaths. Brooks.

I took that to mean that an unidentified Sherburne newspaper ran the obituary, which my correspondent abstracted as follows:

"Mrs. Melissa, of Smyrna, wife of the late Thomas Brooks, d Watertown Dec. 7, 1896; no age. She was b in Exeter, Otsego Co., NY ab. 74 yrs. ago, where she res. till her marriage in 1839, when she rem. to the old Lathrop farm in Sher. The fol. yr. they rem. to Smyrna where they have res. the past 21 yr. She was widely loved and respected. Surv. by 3 sons: Floyd and Deloss, of Smyrna, and Dealton S., of Watertown. Rev. Sam'l Miller off. at her fun., assisted by Rev. H. G. Blair, of Smyrna; bur. at Sher. West Hill."

In summary, paltry documentation accompanied the undeniable ring of authenticity and lots of useful detail. I've confirmed the three surviving sons: Melissa probably died at the Watertown home of one of these, Dealton.

John Thomas
Is this the John Thomas that he DAR has listed as furnishing transportation during the American Revolution? I am doing research on my family, and he is my 5 times great-grandfather.

Thank you.

RE: Carolina Sophia Marie Grube Payne
Joan, you can send them to me, I was trying to contact some of the family, I just recently come in to some photos of Caroline and August's children and there were a couple that were not named I was hoping to trying to match them up with some of what the family have, I'm pretty sure the ones that weren't named were the ones that went west.
