Bio Photo My family has been in San Buenaventura, Ventura Co., CA since 1861 when my GG Grandfather came out west from Madison Co., NY. He became the first mayor in 1866 after Ventura separated from Santa Barbara County and Ventura County was created. I have been doing genealogy of my family for a number of years. You can find my tree on, and Currently working on commorating veterans of the Civil War who were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Ventura, Calvary & Cieneguitas Cemeteries in Santa Barbara. I live in Carlsbad, San Diego County at present.

Gurdin N Kenyon
I posted the cemetery photo you took on the 31st, for Gurdin, with flags flying. It looks great. Thanks to you and Alex, I am staying in contact with my GGGrandfather.
Thank you so much, Nancy

Arnaiz / Arnaz
Hi Terry,

My point is, this isn't an isolated instance where the census taker wrote the name down differently once and that's the only time you see the name spelled differently. It is Arnaiz on the Forest Lawn records, the California Death Index, and their grave markers. For whatever reason, they wanted their name spelled that way. Maybe for some reason they wanted to differentiate themselves from the rest of the family, I don't know.

Maybe there was a bit of a snob factor and they wanted the name to sound more Spanish, like someone with a German name adding a "von" to the front of the name to sound aristocratic. But I don't know, I'm just speculating on that.

BTW, I will link to his parents if you can find the memorials for them, whether they are Arnaiz or Arnaz. But I will be declining the name change edits.

Arnaiz / Arnaz - Forest Lawn Glendale
Hi Terry,

I am a bit mystified, you are sending edits to change these Arnaizes to Arnazes, but the Forest Lawn website, the California Death Index, and their markers all show their surnames as Arnaiz not Arnaz. I am guessing you show an ancestor somewhere along the line whose name is Arnaz, but that doesn't mean their descendants will all have the same name, if they chose to change the spelling when they came to this country, they are allowed to do that.

Hazel Bounds Sewell
ThelogianThespian (who created the memorial for Hazel) frequently creates memorials for people under the name they are better known under (or the name of a famous or better known spouse) so it is very possible that Hazel's marker reads Cottrell and not Sewell. I would bust his chops about it but Find A Grave does the same thing with many of the famous memorials, so things just get all mixed up. I like to go with either the name on the marker or the legal name of the person at the time of their death, but frequently people create memorials for women with a prior married name, especially if they had children with the first husband and none with the second husband.

My apologies. Because I did not control the memorial for Hazel I thought you were sending me links for people I did not control at all since you sent me her memorial number. I have linked Glenn to her. I am assuming he is the right person since he in the only Glenn Sewell that I control the memorial for. However, you still want to send the relationship links through the edits tab, there is way too much ambiguity if you leave the information posted on a message on the member's page.

Hi Terry,

I do not control these memorials any longer, please submit the edits on the individual memorials through the edit tab on those memorials (spouse to spouse from either spouse, parent links are done through the memorials for the children, etc.). There is a place within the edits screen specifically for relationship links, you will see it if you click on the edits tab on the memorial.

I transferred Bounds and his wife to you since you are evidently related. I am not.
