RE: Yes
Also wanted to let you know that Cassie Hill is being a huge help to me in getting my info on the Stephens' family straight.

My goal right now is to get all of my ducks in a row so I can apply for membership with the DAR. That was a dream of my mother's for as long as she lived. Unfortunately, she passed away before we could complete the search and I kind of let it fall by the wayside. Now I am trying to at least fulfill one goal for mom.

Again - thank you for all the encouragement and help with the Brown side of the family. That is a very convoluted mess. Not sure of just where to go with it.

RE: Yes
My Great-Grandfather was Andrew Jackson Stephens - born in Bunceton, Missouri. His father was Joseph Stephens and his mother was Catherine Dickson (2nd wife). My grandfather was Thomas B. Stephens - born in Wise County, Texas. My grandmother was Edna Maude Linn (2nd wife) and my mother was their 2nd child.

My aunt is trying to trace the Indian blood. We hit a major road block when we realize that my grandmother (paternal) had destroyed all of the existing paperwork that proved up the lineage on my grandfather's and her background. Her maiden name was Doyel and her parents were Henry Jay Doyel and Minnie Lee Ann Cheeves Doyel. At one time we found their marriage listed on the Choctaw roles, but when we went back to get proof. It could not be found. They were married in Madill, Oklahoma at the tribal court house.

My grandfather's parents were Louisa (Luisa) Tennessee Nelson and Carvi London Brown. We have been lead to believe that the Nelson's were of Cherokee descent. My Grandmother did an excellent job of destroying all records. The only thing my aunt can remember is that when she was in grade school a man representing one of the Oklahoma tribes came to talk to my grandparents about how she was eligible for Indian money while in school. Right after he left, my grandmother went into a rage and destroyed a lot of papers - saying that she had been able to bury the Indian and it was not going to become public. The aunt did say that she was able to get back to some of the Eastern Cherokee's by the name of Hildebrand, but don't know if that is correct or not.

Like I said earlier - I am very discouraged about everything and just want to take a rest from it. The only grave I would really like to be able to find is the one for Louisa Tennessee Nelson Brown. The only thing we know is that she died in 1898 and is buried somewhere in Montague County, Texas. She was my Great grandfather's first wife (he buried 4 total) and we never knew too much about her. She died at the age of 19 and my grandfather was raised by her older brother Sam.

Thanks for encouragement and the offer to help. I just got started with the Find-A-Grave because of my husband's brother, he likes to travel all over taking photos and he found a few that belonged to my family. But if a person isn't careful, a person can get off into a big maze that you will never find your way out of.

Ooops must have hit the wrong button. I tried to send you a family tree with the email you provided but it rejected.

Can you resend to me. Go to the listing I own (one of the craig links (go to Martha then go to her father) and select edit (other) and you can provide it to me that way so it is private).

Would like to communicate with you on the family.

Debby Roe
Thank you Debby for posting the pictures on the Hanelines. The pictures of Enoch and Phoebe are from an big family picture. The original picture was submitted by Anna Combs. That is where Tom got it from.
I appreciate you helping. All the Find A Grave contributors need to help each other. We all need to create accurate and truthful memorials.
By the way , I not mad at you.

RE: Stephens
This was straightened out a few days ago. I am from what is referred to as the Texas Stephens.

There are so many people that keep getting into the picture and keep telling me this and that, it is to the point where a person gets very discouraged. I have decided to let the research set and rest for a while.

When I am ready, I will start it again with a fresher mind set and hopefully with a lack of confusion from so many people telling me what I am NOT.

Thank you for your input.

Henry Stephens

I looked through all my records and don't know where I got the name Thomas so I've updated Find A Grave and to remove the Thomas part. Thank you for making me aware of this.

RE: Not possible
Which journals ? There are several journals that we found. There several of our Stephens family ancestors that wrote in the journals.
The main one you are talking about was written by Peter Stephens and his wife Maria Christina together. Maria is the one that wrote about Peter Steffens. There is one that Lewis wrote one also. There is various ancestors that wrote the journals.
