Hi Del-Good to hear from you. Family searches just never end, do they!
There's a good reason why some records show WVA rather than VA. When Jonathan died April 18, 1863 Summerville was in VA. WVA was admitted to the Union as a state a few months later on JUne 20, 1863; then Summerville VA became Summerville WVA.
This issue came about because I've been working with the Sons of Union Veterans organization to get Ohio Civil War veterans graves listed on their web-site. Using the cemetery enumeration book Caryn compiled, I submitted 108 names for Madison/Harrison townships alone (mostly on government issued gravestones). 'Course they all need to be researched and verified before they are entered.
PS I still use the computers here at the library for e-mail, etc-but they get me where I'm going!

Hiya, I am sure you are glad you have your move behind you! Thanks for getting back with me. I am looking at the inscription book, it says all the Virgins are in Big Grove. Says Abram Swing is in Big Grove and Shadrich Swing is in Swings Grove.
I will get out there in the next couple weeks, it's been a couple years since I visited either cemetery.
BTW, your memorials are great with all the bio and photos you have added to them!
Let me know if there is anything I can do for you in this area, I get to the courthouse in Havana frequently.
All the best,

Hi Del and Diane, I am confused. I am looking at your memorials and photos for the Sikes and Virgin families. The Mason Co Cemetery Inscriptions publication says they are buried in Big Grove. Your memorials say Swing's Grove.
I have been to both cemeteries, Swing's Grove is pretty much flat, Big Grove is on a hill, it is hard to park there, and a sidewalk runs up though the middle of it.
Can you clarify this for me?
I appreciate your time!

Sorry it took so long to respond, but we have been volunteering as campground hosts for the state, and have been away from home, phone, and internet for more than 5 months.
We were able to get back home a few times for a couple of days at a time, and I did try to go through my email, but can't remember if I answered yours.
George T. Virgin was married to my great grand aunt, and I found the names in some of my research. Thanks for the info, and if you'd like I would transfer their grave memorials to you.

There is conflicting info re the place of death. The cemetery enumeration of Squires done in 1976 by Caryn Shoemaker for her book on cemeteries of Madison Twp, Scioto County indicates the stone for Jonathan reads "Jonathan Pool s/o W & A d Summerville Va. Apr 7, 1863 age 19"
The photo indicates the stone may have sunk so that place is no longer visible?
The Roster of Ohio Troops (Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion 1961-1866, published by auth of Gereral Assembly), Co F 91st Reg states "Jonathan Pool, musician, age 18, entered service Aug 8, 1862 for 3 yrs, died Apr 18, 1863 at Summerville, Va."
History of the 91st shows they only served in WVA, VA,& MD.
Also contact me at email@example.com and I will send you names & dates of 3 add'l children of Alice Emily Ashley Pool. I am grand-daughter Of Amy Gustava.
I am the granddaughter of Mabel Bond and was not aware there was another child named Margaret. Is there documentation for this birth? Thank you.
