I am 46 years old and have 3 children. Family history has always interested me. Find A Grave is a great way to help others learn more about their own family's past.|
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I'd exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you.

Wow! Thank you so much, Judy! I never met my grandparents. They both died 13 years before I was born. I recall my father (who's been deceased for 38 years) saying both his parents died the same year right after he went into the Army in Feb. 1943 - his mother 2 weeks after and father 10 months later. I am surprised there is a legible headstone. I don't know how these are maintained. This means so much to me because I cannot find out much about my dad's parents. I barely know names.
Again, I really appreciate this so much! They are very nice photos as well.
Take care...keep up the good work you do!

It's been about two years since you took those pictures, so you may not remember, but do you happen to know if the stones for Edward McPhail (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=97187498) and his (probably first) wife Mary Doel (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=40884729) are two separate stones, or are they two sides of a single stone?
