I have been an avid genealogist for almost as long as I can all started with a grade school family history project and never stopped! My ancestry is completely Azorean Portuguese with the majority of my family coming from Castelo Branco, Faial and Pedro Miguel, Faial. I had one great-grandmother from Santa Cruz, Flores. I have traced my Azorean lines back through to the beginning of the church records of the Azores and, in some cases, beyond that. Most of my family settled in Warm Springs, CA (now a part of the city of Fremont). Most of my family is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the Mission San Jose area. My father's family moved to the Livermore area not long after the turn of the 20th century, so some of my people are buried in Livermore. After growing up in the Centerville area of Fremont, I moved to Tracy, CA with my parents, where they spent their last years. My maternal grandparents and parents are buried there. I have also traced my husband's family and am working on the families of the spouses of my children. I guess it never ends!

I happened upon Find A Grave just this week and think it is a wonderful way to keep the memory of so many of our families alive.....and not just names in a forgotten cemetery. Hopefully, as we all work together, this site will be a powerful genealogical source and also a wonderful memorial to the dear people who walked this world before us.

Memorials you would like....
Susan , I would love to give you any of your family's memorials. It's easy if you use the edit tabs on each memorial...I don't have your account number, but it will come on the paper work if done this way. If you have a problem let me know. ....Josie

Walter Donald Bettencourt
Hi Susan, Walter Donald Bettencourt is connected to my Portuguese family. I actually have 3 direct line Portuguese families in my maternal line. Most are buried at St. Michael's Cemetery in Livermore. Two lived in the east bay but my grandfather and his wife had their first two children in Tracy. Nice to know there is another Portuguese researcher. Best of luck to you.

Kitt Family
Hello I have been trying to locate the parents of a Rose (?) born 22 July 1897 Lancaster county, Nebraska . She fits in with your Joseph Kitt Family. She first married Claude H. Richardson, b. Iowa. They had one son, Duane in 1917 in Lincoln, NE. She later divorced in 1932. She then married James Ernest Guilford. They are buried at Fort Logan, Denver. Do you know anything about Joseph and Selina's daughter Rose?

RE: Year of birth?
I walked the cemetery in 2001. I asked the church for a list and they said it was private information. I persisted and they finally gave me a list which had been done by the Boy Scouts in 1964. The list included names only - no dates.

I regret now that I did not photograph each stone since I see that many of the old stones have been replaced by new stones. When I walked the area, many of the stones were written in Portuguese, very old and difficult to read. My notes indicate that when I got to Maria Prior there were no dates for her - just a name.

After finishing the cemetery, I went to Rose Mortuary who handled all burials for Holy Spirit. I went through all their Red Books for anyone burial that they hand handled for Holy Spirit. The entries were as they occurred and not alphabetical. In Book 37, page 291 I found Mary Barbara Prior with these dates: born 20 Sep 1888, Lisbon, Portugal; died 10 Mar 1966.

That is all the information that I have. At the time I did not know that Find-a-Grave existed or I would have photographed them all.

Hi Susan, I hope that you get this. I am Molly's granddaughter. Brad was my father. I wanted to reach out to you because I know so little about this side of my family. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you, Dede (Maddox)

Hi Susan-I sent you an email regarding my transferring my grandmother's memorial to me. I haven't heard back from you, so I don't know if your email is still the same. Please contact me. Thank you. Kind regards, Cherie

RE: Ernest & Isabel Vargas memorials

The memorials that I created for your parents have been deleted per your request. No offense taken, I understand entirely. You should be the administrator of your parent's memorials.

Take care,
