Rufus Hurst
Hi Sharon,

There is quite a distance from the Barren Springs community and the Fosters Falls community in Wythe Co Va, where I grew up. And there are a few Hurst Cemeteries. Can you tell me if the Hurst aka Hubbard Cemetery here at find a grave is the correct one for my gg-grandfather, Rufus Hurst?
Thanks Debbie

here is the Find A Grave description

Barren Springs
Wythe County
Virginia USA

The Hurst cemetery is located about 150 yards from the southwest side of state Route 607 (Little Reed Island Road) approximately one mile east of the intersection with state route 100.

ALSO known as the Hubbard Family Cemetery

Linking children to parent
Sharon,
I am not able to link children to Mary Ann Johnston as that action must come from the child memorial.
The one who maintains a memorial of a person can only link parents or spouse to that memorial. You will need to ask the person who has the child memorial to do the linking. Actually I think one of the persons you asked for is maintained by you.

Hurst ancestry
That is great! I look forward to sharing information!!

It sure was harder back in the day...waiting sometimes for months to get a record...ancestry made a big difference.

And Katherine Kent Holden wrote a book about one of the allied families to my Hursts in VA and that was invaluable to me early on. Her book was called The Early Family of Southwest Virginia.
There was one copy of it in my local WV Library.

Please email me at wood.deborah at aol dot com and let me know what email or user name to send your invitation to. Look forward.

Dear Cousin Sharon!

Love So Cal when I've visited. I'd be happy to invite you to my tree on ancestry dot com. I've worked on the line for 20 years and I've been very careful with the facts and sources.

Sharon,

Well, it may have been Francis, but you know there are several Hurst will the middle name Franklin and Forrest. I've always wondered.

It's good to know you, cousin! My paternal grandmother, the only grandmother I was able to know, was the Hurst in my family. I just love this line. I admired what the Hurst folks did with their lives.

And in Wythe Co where I grew up, as well as Pulaski and maybe Carroll Counties, there are more than a few Hurst cemeteries...so it's never easy to find....but this new information is greatly appreciated! Thank you, again!

Thank you !!!
I'd love to visit that cemetery...not sure which on it is. Does the death cert. happen to give his middle name? Sure glad to know his burial place. Thank you so much!

The Smith Letters tell some interesting stories. It appears Isaac Hurst was in the 29th VA Inf, captured at Suffolk, two years later he serves a year in Union Army. I cannot find his POW record. It would make a good story.

Smith Letters
Sharon

In looking at military units I found these letters. The Smiths and Hursts seem to have documented and interesting history during the Civil War period. You may know of them, but thought you might find them useful.

RE: Looking for a grave
Thanks for keeping me informed. I would be interested in all things about Isaac's & Jesse's family Hurst. Very interesting stories. Did I see you had the story about Jesse coming home in the war. Any story as to why Isaac joined the Union Army? I would like to see the story if you don't mind.

Thanks again
Earl
