I'm a member of the Brennan clan of Berkeley, CA. |
My great-great-grandfather Edward James Brennan was born near Dornoch in Holland Township, Grey County, Ontario, to Patrick and Mary Ann (Jordan) Brennan from near Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, Ireland.
His older brother James and his cousin Margaret Roach moved to California in the 1860s. In 1871 another brother, John, arrived in California, and Edward joined them in 1873. In June 1878, his widowed sister Catherine Craig had taken the R. Knott house in Berkeley and was furnishing it for boarders. By 1886 a younger sister, Elizabeth, had arrived in California and married Evan Gill.
Four siblings remained in Dornoch. The eldest child, Maggie, married George Kohler in in about 1855 and died in 1870. Thomas Brennan, the second eldest son, remained in Dornoch until after his parents' death, at which time he and wife and large family removed to Manitoba. Michael, the next son, married Margaret Patton and died young. Mary, Ed's twin sister, married James Kerley in May 1877; they had no children.
Great great grandfather Brennan's siblings and Brennan, Jordan, Roach, Sullivan, and Priel cousins have scattered through (at least) California, Montana, Nebraska, Manitoba, Illinois, New York, and Washington.
On my mother's side, the surnames include: BRENNAN, REHKER, DEMPSEY, OLBERDING, CURTIS, BIERMAN, JORDAN, TEAGUE, ROACH, MCAVOY,DUNNIGAN. Related family names are O'MARA, SULLIVAN, CREMMEN, KOHLER, CRAIG, GILL, KEENAN, MCCARTNEY, KEYES, MALONE, MULDOON, VASEY, SMYTH, COFFEY, BOYLE, PRIEL, MCGRATH. Some of these are from the Grey County area of Ontario; others are from California, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Manitoba.
On my father's side, the surnames include: HOYT, SULLIVAN, ROBERTSON, GOOGE, CLARK, SANTERFEIT, WALKER, STEWART. Related names are FINCH, LEE, BANKSTON, SELZ, BRIGGS, BOYKIN, PONCHER. These are mostly from Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

Just transferred Clifford Robertson to you. Most of the gravesites at Little River Cemetery are my relatives but I haven't found any that were married or otherwise to the Robertsons. My relatives there are mostly Goff and Hawkins. Let me know if there is anyone else you need. Susan
I will be glad to transfer your family members' memorials over to you. Let me complete their plot information and then I'll transfer. It will be about 2 weeks before I'll have a chance to get the information.

I have been looking thru my memory cards and have not been able to locate the card that this photo came from. I do remember that the day I was taking the photos, the sun was so bright that I was having a hard time getting any decent photos. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but if I do find the card I will let you know.

No, as far as I know I am not related to them. My Brennans came from County Kilkenny (township of Baurnafea), which is close to the area where your relatives came from. They went to Watertown, NY around 1847-1849 and then to Normanby Township in Grey County, probably in the early 1860s. I already corresponded with Dauntodottie regarding my family in February of this year - I think she is related to you. There were quite a few Brennans from the Kilkenny area who went to Ontario. If you do find a connection between the families I would be interested in hearing about it.
I'm confused much of the time! Thx again!

Thanks for the emails, I've corrected & added the info. Mary Ann Carmody is my "1st cousin 3X removed". Are we related? Do you have a tree on ancestry.com? Marion

Chris..I noticed I did not add a photo .. Unusual for me .. I will recheck and take photo next summer. Elaine
Chris...I can't say if Frank had been moved. I have never stopped at the Rapid River Cemetery but people confuse Bark River and Rapid River towns frequently. They are about 30 miles apart. Elaine
