I was born in Harrisburg and raised near Linglestown, Pennsylvania. I am the first person born in this WILE line with the name spelled WYLE. Research has shown the family name was changed to WILES, WYLE and WYLES starting in the late 1800s. I have also located evidence that indicates the original spelling may have been WEIL. Additionally, I am related to the TODDES and CULLISON lines from Gettysburg, the FINFROCK and CURRY lines from York, the WILE, JACOBS, MONN, WAGAMAN and DULL lines from Mont Alto, and through marriage, the CATALANOTTO and TUSA lines from Louisiana.

FOR WILE RESEARCHERS IN THE MONT ALTO, PENNSYLVANIA AREA: Now deceased family members previously informed me there are two Wile lines in the Mont Alto area that are NOT related. This was also verified by a now deceased member of the other Wile line. I have not yet confirmed the two lines. According to these family members, my line immigrated from Hamburg, Germany through the Port of Philadelphia. The other line entered Franklin County, Pennsylvania from Maryland. Starting in the mid 1800's, my Wile line migrated from Mont Alto, Pennsylvania to Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Washington, California, Florida, Louisiana, Virginia and Massachusetts.

Researching family history is a way to honor our ancestors, and learn who they were and how they lived. Members who participate in this program, including those members who are able to add pictures to memorials, are providing a great service to researchers who live outside of commuting areas. The generosity of Find-A-Grave members is very much appreciated. THANKS for all you do.

Caution: There is misinformation on the net. Use other's work as a lead, but confirm everything, using "boots-on-the-ground" research including, but not limited to, birth and death certificates, verbal family history, cemetery, library, historical society and court records.

the Wile clan
I found out from another Find A Grave member that the Wile clan might actually be buried in Rose Hill instead of Mount Zion. I would suggest to get the obit and try to confirm with the mortuary or find out if they are buired somewhere else. Mortuaries do have to keep track so we will see.

RE: HARRIET MONN WILE
Thanks for the heads up, John. I also looked for her at Mount Zion. It seems there is a lot of confusion between Mount Zion, Mont Alto and Quincy Cemeteries since they are in the same general vacinity. And just because the Historical Society records don't list her, doesn't mean she's not there somewhere. I'll be sure to keep an eye open when I'm there.

RE: WILE FAMILY
You're welcome. I didn't think that I had missed a marker in the Mont Alto Cemetery, so I just had to try again - with no luck.

They also reported, specifically:
Many headstones are unreadable. Even though I couldn't find the actural marker,
the Franklin County, PA Historical Society's records show a "WILE, David b. 2
Mar. 1861 d. 16 Mar. 1864." I hope this helps.
