"I believe that love and prayer are the most important things in life," -Anne Nichols

Excerpt from "Abie's Irish Rose:

FATHER WHALEN. Sure, we're all trying to get to the same place when we pass on. We're just going by different routes. We can't all go on the same train.
RABBI. And just because you are not riding on my train, why should I say your train won't get there?
Anne Nichols (1891-1966), American playwright; from Abie's Irish Rose (play), 1922

HAUNTING EYES

Haunting eyes peering at me
Through the veiled, forgotten past;
Spirit voices, phantom actors
Beckon me to join their cast...
Time unravels ancient stitches
As I vainly grasp each thread;
Scattered whispers, faded photos
Tell the tale of those long dead...
Withered memories pressed like flowers
Speak of young love once in bloom;
Scented traces faintly linger
Over long-neglected tomb...
Ghostly chanting leads me blindly
Down each darkened corridor..
As I ponder things that once were
-Things that are will be no more...

-Robert Westberry

One of my favorite poems by Alan Seeger:

"I Have a Rendezvous with Death"

I have a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air--
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.

It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath--
It may be I shall pass him still..
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope or battered hill.
When Spring comes round again this year
And the first meadow-flowers appear.

God knows 'twere better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down.
Where love throbs out in blissful sleep,
Pulse nigh to pulse and breath to breath,
Where hushed awakenings are dear--
But I've a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some flaming town,
When Spring trips forth again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.

-Alan Seeger (1888-1916)

I would like to take this time to thank all of those who have visited my family including, my granny, Vera Griffis Westberry (who got me started on genealogy). Also many thanks to those who have visited my Anne Nichols and Adelaide Matthews Memorials. These were two wonderful ladies of the theatre who knew each other as friends and wrote plays together. I am fortunate to be related to Anne and to have known her and Adelaide through the eyes and memories of my friend, Janet. I am always looking for more information on Anne and Adelaide. If anyone has information please contact me or Janet (capecodder). After all, Anne's most popular quote was:

"Life's Greatest Handicap Is Being Contented!"

The following poem was found in my mother's (Hazel Westberry Paesano) belongings after she passed:

"The Time Is Now"

If you are ever going to love me,
Love me now while I can know
The sweet and tender feelings,
Which from true affection flow.
Love me now, while I am living...
Do not wait until I'm gone
And then have it chiseled in marble,
Sweet words on ice-cold stone.
If you have tender thoughts of me, please tell me now...
If you wait until I am sleeping, never to awaken,
There will be death between us and I won't hear you then.
So, if you love me , even a little bit,
Let me know while I am living so I can treasure it.

Mariah Elizabeth Silvius
Hey...by researching and reading, I have discovered we are related to Anna and Nicholas Silvius....they were captured by Indians and released in 1755. There appears to be GREAT possibility that Mariah was the product of this abduction, and is our Native ancestor :)

Well...my mother and I have truly sat and cried at your incredible efforts...they are NOT lost on us!!! And you ALWAYS respond so quickly :) I even joined Ancestry.com, but they have been ZERO help, and YOU have been wonderful :) If I were computer savy enough to upload and post photos, I would in a heart beat for you! However, I am not....and all our photos are of Sara Jane Sowash-Smith, and you already have them!! And more then we do :) If I come across anything on Ancestry cuz, you will be the second to know!!!! Hehehehe, thank you again kind wonderful person!!!!

Hello Cousin!!
Just your annoying cousin again! Had to say again how much I enjoy getting on and seeing the treasure troves of history you have made!!! May God continue to bless you!!! Also, was curious as to whether or not you could turn me onto a place where I might find more history on our ancestor Missouri Hannah Baker Goodlin. Rumor has had it from the mouth of my precious Granny Sara Jane Smith that Missouri was native indian....I am trying to discover our ties to the Sioux nation, but am completely dead locked! Even though I realize that this is a labor of love on your part, and I am sure you do not have all the answers :) I was hoping perhaps you might have a suggestion from your many posts!! Thank you again, I hope you could perhaps point me in a potential direction, but also realize you might not know where to look either! Regardless, thank you again sooo much!!
