Sidney Hood Would you please tell me your source for your statement on the Find A Grave page for his wife that "Sidney was the son of Jacob Hood and Delitha Ramsey of Burke/Caldwell. Sidney died in the Civil War. He is buried in Point Lookout Maryland." I agree with the latter part of your statement. However, all of the Civil War records I see with dates for Sidney show he was born about 1837 and all the records for Sidney, son of Jacob, show he was born about 1845. That is a much bigger disparity in age than is normal so I question whether these 2 people are the same. Do you have proof for his parentage other than census reports? Thank you.
RE: Benge I have asked 4 people who are very knowledgeable about cemeteries, especially older ones, in the western part of Wilkes (Job's Cabin, Summitt, Yellow Hill, etc.) and they do not know of a Benge Cemetery. George is actually one of those people. There is a Benge Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here is one of the responses from the person who probably would know the most:
Chris, I do not know of a Benge Cemetery. Jobs Cabin takes in a lot of territory – it goes up new 421 from Mt. Pleasant all the way up to Watauga on the north side of the road as well as it starts just up above Stony Hill Church from me. There were a log of "Benge's" that lived up Big Ivy way. If there had been a cemetery in Wilkes, George and Joyce would have surveyed. A lot of the older folks still lived up the mountain when they started.
There was a community (with post office) just across the parkway that was called Benge, but I don't remember a cemetery being there either. Benge is where the little motel is on the parkway between 421 and 16.
Who is she looking for? The majority of the Benge's that I knew / knew of are buried at Blue Ridge Baptist Church which is just up the road from where the Benge post office was. (Barbara Spears Pipek)
RE: Samuel Riddle I was happy to remove my memorial to Samuel Riddle, especially since your information is a great addition to his memorial. I will move the photo of the grave marker and the cemetery to your memorial on Samuel Riddle. Give me a few days to get this done. The files are on another computer instead of the one I am tying on at this moment. I am holding on to your email message as a reminder to upload the grave marker. Glad I can contribute, especially since you did all the work.
RE: Hi I forgot to tell you that I would be glad to link Coy to his mother if you give me her Find A Grave# or I could transfer management to you if you want it. Just give me your Find A Grave#. D. Rowland
RE: Hi Hope this helps. I have found the obituary of Clara Rowland Hood McMann. It said she was married to Coy C. Hood and she is survived by a son, James Baxter Hood of Danville.
Baxter Hood was listed as Coy Hood's "grandfather" in the 1930 Census. Also Baxter Hood was listed as Coy Hood's "father" in the 1920 Census. I don't think that relationship is correct in the 1920 census since Adeline Hood, Baxter's wife, would have been giving birth at 57 yrs old.
I think you have a good case that this is the Coy Hood you are looking for because Coy's son, James Baxter Hood, is named after his grandfather, Baxter Hood. This is just too much of a coincident for him to not be the one.
I'm posting the obituary on Clara's bio on findagrave if you want to look at it.
RE: Coy Clifford Hood Yaffa, I don't really know if this is the same Coy Hood or not. I don't know any of the family history. I tried to look up some info from Ancestry.com. The NC Birth Index had the name Coy Elizton Hood born 10 Feb 1916 to Nancy E Hood. The tombstone has 16 Feb 1916 and different middle name. So your guess is as good as mine. D. Rowland
Edward Easton McMillan Hi Yaffa, thanks for your message about my great grandfather, Edward Easton McMillan. Yes, I have seen his draft card. Do you have a connection with this McMillan, or are you just working on McMillans in general? Eric.
RE: Tedder Ahhhhh....okay, now I remember. That conversation all happened through a "report issue" on a different photo request. Everett Jay Tedder is already listed in the Walnut Grove Baptist Cemetery where I saw his grave. When I saw he had a grave photo already and it wasn't taken by me, I got a little confused. Hahaha...sorry.
