I expect to be asked for permission to use my headstone and family photographs in your personal genealogy files. This is just common courtesy folks!
I will NEVER give permission for my photos to be put on Ancestry.com. Please just link to the Findagrave memorial from Ancestry. It works very nicely and does not give Ancestry "ownership" of my photos. By uploading my photos to Ancestry you are "giving" them to Ancestry. Read the small print on Ancestry.com during the photo upload.
It is very important to me that the work I do for free does not get charged for on Ancestry.com. Whether you understand or agree with me about this matter or not, I have the right to make that choice for my work. I will not argue copyright with you.
***Transfer Request Rules LINK***
Please use the edit tab at the top right of the memorial you are referring to when sending updates, links and transfer requests.
(Please take the time to read the transfer request rules by following the link above). For the most part, I adhere to the transfer guidelines. I do NOT add link to a burial unknown memorial. This is FINDAGRAVE folks! Not "List Everyone Who Ever Died"!
I HAVE COMPLETED PHOTOGRAPHING AND ADDING PHOTOS TO EXISTING MEMORIALS AND NEW MEMORIALS IN-
CHEWELAH MEMORIAL PARK
SAINT MARY OF THE ROSARY
SAINT FRANCIS REGIS MISSION
CULLY MEMORIAL Cully may have some un-photographed stone due to heavy coverage of bushes, vines, Iris etc. I did my best but this was a hard one.
CEMETERIES AND ADDED ALL STONE INFORMATION AND PHOTOS.
NOTE: FAG FAQ say not to add cut and paste obituaries. In trying to comply with this rule I have turned down adding obituaries that have been sent to me. It has become apparent that FAG is adding these obits when people send them to edit@. Since FAG admins are adding I will too. Remove the names of the living before sending the obituary per FAG's "other" rule and the obituary must have attribution too.
NOTE 2: Before there was a rule against it. I added many obituary scans to memorials from our local newspaper from the early 1900. I have now attempted to go back and transcribe all of these into the bio area. Unfortunately it is very difficult to find ones that are not on my own memorials. If you find one please bring it to my attention and I will transcribe it and send it to the memorial manager. Thank you for your help.

|germanroots||2 duplicate records|
2 messages I received from you today. Big brother is indeed watching!! And his name is Chuck Norris! Alice Jane Smith is actually Alice Jane Cousins Smith and is a great aunt. I discovered the duplicate situation yesterday and am waiting for a reply to message to/from original contributor. Rather than ask for a transfer(I saw immediately that the contributor doesn't have mega thousands of names to manage like so many others who are dedicated indeed but have no real connection to some of the names and relationships they guard so zealously). This party who created the 2 names you refer to has less than a hundred files and I felt that this was just as personal to them as the subject great aunt who is personal to me. I have her genealogy back to common 4x GGrandparents in Ireland so she is meaningful. BUT I suspect her daughter is meaningful to original findagrave contributor and family to the contributor as well...tho no closer... if you get my drift. I sent them a message as soon as I discovered my error and asked them to accept the connections I provided in my file for Alice Jane rather than me just deleting the one I added until they do this OR ask for a transfer. Then common sense told me, and I suggested, having made appropriate family links, they would simply ask me to delete mine. Now I suspect they haven't done the genealogy because they didn't have Alice Jane Cousins Smith's maiden name nor other connections to parents etc. There are stories to tell about her coming to North America etc. etc. a short version which I have added in her bio. Have yet to hear from them. And this is indeed family. I will immediately delete her husband Alton Smith who is also added in error. He is not "family" under guidelines. Alice Jane however goes back to a common ancestor and I have spent many years doing the research. By the way Chuck...find a grave is on Ancestry....sad to say. If I don't hear from contributor on that original record for Alice Jane within the next few days....don't know what to do....have to waste time keeping coming back to this broken link.
Alton Smith duplicate, I will delete immediately. But some of the science defeats me in other cases where the contributor has no family connection but exercises all the control over the profile of an individual. You can ask them to make changes and think you have your family ancestor with a nailed down link and a bio which you may feel is appropriate and respectful and need to beg them to add when they know nothing about the genealogy...how could they when they manage so many files...you could ask them to make connections which have totally no relevance. Also,from what I observe, and correct me if I am wrong, the file they control, despite whatever photos you may have added etc., can be deleted on a whim by original contributor who has done the indexing.. someone who may just have a mad on at the world...no family connection at all....and it can be a crazy world as we all know. I am already feeling intimidated by a few in the community who have a death clutch on their massive collection of files BUT there are also dedicated individuals whom I respect. Sad to say. I need to dream up a user name that is calm and non threatening as fits my personality. :) Your find a grave message to myself reads:
Find A Grave contributor ChuckNorris has made a suggestion to you regarding your Find A Grave memorial for Alton Smith.

This is also a duplicate memorial and needs to be deleted. Please send corrections and aditions to the original memorial using the edit tab. Here is a link to the original.

You said that you have funeral card and obit for her. Also for William? Would love to have them for the family tree.
My husbands family comes from William's father. Mathew Tummon Champion. And the daughter Sarah Champion Van Schoiack.

Thanks for the heads up, I put it in for deletion. I didn't create it so has to go to admin in order to delete..
Will also send you a private message..
|Gayla Oman||RE: just a question|
These are not unintentional memorials being added before the person is deceased and it isn't just a couple it is many many memorials.
|Gayla Oman||RE: just a question|
None of the links are working (for me anyway). The headstones I am having the problem with are ones that are preset without dates or one of the couple has died and the spouse is being added into the cemetery. These are people that have died recently and the spouse is still alive. If this is an ok thing for findagrave I'll let it go, in any case it is very tacky. By the way I just picked you at random to ask my question in case you were wondering.
|Kenneth Neundorf||RE: Transcribing|
Thanks for writing. Since I originally wrote you I have figured out that there were some major bugs in the program that Find a Grave was using for transcribing. Your name came up on some of my memorials but there was no picture on them.
I had uploaded about 10000 pictures that I took over two summers in three local cemeteries. When I head about the transcribing feature I was delighted. I just did not have the time to put them on the site.
One of the major problems is that when the transcribers would type the memorial the pictures were placed in a memorial already created but at the same time it would it would create a duplicate memorial. That is were you name was listed as transcriber but there was no picture.
So far I have spent about 20 hours fixing the mistakes in one of the cemeteries and I am about 1/2 done.
So as far as I am concerned that you did not do anything wrong but the Find a Grave transcribing Program has some major problems.
|Gayla Oman||just a question|
was wondering if you could tell me how to report to whomever a local person who takes a cemetery records and adds all names of people who have plots. I mean the people who have plots that haven't died, lots of them. Or maybe this is ok to do, I just think it is very tacky. Thanks
|Scott Adell||Hattie Cummings|
Chuck,Thanks for the call-out. On the Maggie Rail transcriptions, it says Highland/Calvary Cemetery. Not being from the area, I thought that meant them to be one in the same place. Highland has her husband W.O. Cummings, but Harriet is not listed. I called Highland today, to verify her being laid to rest with her husband as her obit states and they will get back with me after they go to the grave site to see if she has a marker by her husbands side.....or not. Evidently, they couldn't do it this afternoon due to rain. I guess a fire destroyed records around 1930, so there are 'gaps' prior to the date and they need to physically look in this case. Anyhow, I should have left that part blank until her location could be verified. I'll make the change when I get Jason's verification, hopefully tomorrow. Thanks again !
