I have been a resident of Virginia since 1985, most of that time in Richmond. I serve as Board President of the "Friends of Shockoe Hill Cemetery", and am a past Commander-in-Chief of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS), the oldest Civil War descendants' organization.|
I am happy to make corrections and additions as needed.

I just did some research on Shockoe & Hollywood Cemeteries, and Libby Prison and now realize they were/are all in Richmond! I'm guessing that's why the family of my James Wilson (CSA) disinterred his body at Shockoe in preference to Hollywood. I'm cautiously optimistic, thanks to you. (Three of five brothers died in the war.)
My husband's roots are in VT, so we plan to find the resting place of his 14th VT family member next spring.
Looking forward to visiting Richmond soon. Can't thank you enough!

Yes, she does have a memorial I created, found all the information except where she is buried at. I was hoping she is in the same cemetery as her parents, not sure though. Richard and Matilda are her parents.

Thanks Jeffry for your quick response, Emma was born and raised in Good Ol Virginia, moving to New Jersey when she married James Blackburn Heard which does indeed explain to lag in time between death and burial. Also most if not all of her family is buried there(Denny)

Question about my relation Douglas who's memorial is in the subject line, do you know if Douglas was 5 Months 18 Days at the time of his death or when they buried him? As you know there was about 29 days between the two events. Thanks

First, Thank you so much for all you do. It's so heart-warming to know there are folks who care, and who put time & energy into honoring those who have gone before.
Q re: post for "James W Wilson" #143036392 at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond; d. 14 July 1862, buried at Shockoe Hill, but disinterred and moved to Hollywood 7 Mar 1864.
I'm hoping this might be my 3rd great-uncle who was Lt James Franklin Wilson (1831 - 11 Jul 1862) 34th NC, Co H, who died of typhoid fever "in or near Richmond VA" (as per muster card). I had No Idea where he was buried until today, having found your entry. So, now I have HOPE.
"Plot: Range 9, Sec 3" seems to be a Shockoe Hill designation? Hollywood Cemetery's website lists James W Wilson at R-13. I've never been there, but it is now definitely on my Wish List!
His family was fairly wealthy so perhaps they had the means to move him? Do you think I should have hope?
Thanks so much,

It was both a privilege and honor to sponsor Lt. Fant on his Find A Grave site. He should certainly be remembered for his devotion, service, and sacrifice for the Southern Cause. Lou Fritz
