Hello. I have been working on my family history since the early 1980's and I really love how Find A Grave helps us find or confirm those missing branches in our Family Trees. It has helped me break through a couple of brick walls and I hope all my efforts, time and money spent for Find A Grave will help others as much as they have helped me.
My goal is to provide as much information that I can to help anybody who is looking for it. I know that some of us (Your Know Who You Are) Find A Grave contributors do not like getting emails from others letting you know you made a mistake or duplicated a posting. I AM NOT one of those people. Please email me when you find a legitimate mistake and I will correct them as soon as possible. Please include any supporting information, especially the F.A.G. ID#. I probably won't email you when I complete your request, but I promise you it will be taken care of.
Now, when I'm not in a Cemetery, I do have a life so sometimes it can take me a few days to respond. If I take longer than the one mount window per F.A.G.'s rules and you can't wait for me to get to it, you can submit your corrections, updates, etc... directly to F.A.G. support. I know they have a lot on their plates, so again I will make corrections and transfers as soon as I can. In the past I responded to every email within the time frame set by F.A.G. but I've just been burned, harassed, treated poorly and just plain disrespected by to my people on this system, so I'm not as enthusiastic as I use to be.
There are also too many contributors who will not respond to my requests to transfer my family over to me or even update their memorial pages. I'm not referring to one or two emails. I talking about several emails sent over a span of a year or longer. One woman refuses to transfer or delete my living aunt. I've submitted a few requests to F.A.G. that went unanswered. I also do not understand why anybody would just want to hoard memorials and not work with a family members or at the very least just maintain the memorial page. If you're not willing to do this, why even bother with this program. Find another hobby and leave this one to those of us who want to work with and share information with others.
If you are one of those people who steals somebody else's work and then post it on here taking created for work you didn't do. Well, what goes around comes around.
We all know that emails don't always go through or they get sent to your junk folder, accidently deleted and the worse, your Outlook crashes. That's happened to me a few times. Please don't automatically go to a negative assumption. If I do not act on your email within a mounth. I have no issues with you resending your requests. Believe me; I would rather get your emails twice that not get them at all.
When you request a transfer, please tell me how you are related and please don't just send a message that reads anything like "transfer this to meĻ If you do this I WILL WILL delete your email. It doesn't take but a second or two to type the world "please". We all know that if you are the one asking for anything, you're more likely to get what you want when you want it and get it quicker if you ask nicely. Remember, this is not my job and I do not make any money from doing this. It actually cost me time and money to provide you this information.
If you are one of those people who just post Obituaries, you can email me the obituary and I will add it to the memorial and list your name and F.A.G. ID#
Unfortunately I've encountered too many not so
nice people on here and I really don't understand it. Genealogists are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and they are always willing to help others and share their information. To many Find A Grave contributors that I have had the pleasure of dealing with ARE NOT anything like Genealogist. If you're not willing to play nice with other, please go find another sand box to play in.
I photograph cemeteries wherever I travel. All my entries were backed by a photograph so if I don't have a picture posted, you can me email a request to post the picture or you can post a photo request through F.A.G. Most of the time I take several shots of the headstones and graves and I'd be happy to share them with you.
I have over 100,000 headstone and grave site pictures that have not been posted. I'll have them all entered someday. I've had two hard drive failures, so I've lost some pictures, so when I can I will reshoot them and I'm working on reshooting some of my poor quality pictures.
Another part of my goal is to provide quality not quantity. I want people to use my pictures in their family trees. I do ask that my pictures not be reposted on any other web site that is not your personal family tree. I spent a lot of time and money to take these pictures, so please respect this request. If you want me to post my pictures on other web sites like Find A Grave, email me and I will do it. One of the reasons I have not been adding as many pictures to F.A.G is because I am posting my pictures on other sites.
I apologize to all you good people who are once again catching the short end of the stick because of the actions of the bad ones. I am truly sorry.
Please remember to be kind and respectful when you send me or anybody any type of request. Genealogy is my hobby and hobbies are suppose to be fun and relaxing, so I'm asking you to help me have fun and relax a little.
