Boone County native Claude R. Shirley, 83, Route 2, Lebanon, died Monday afternoon at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been a patient 12 days.
Shirley was born November 21, 1893 in Boone County the son of Lewis and Mattie Caldwell Shirley. He was married to Ruby L. Myers. She survives. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July of this year.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Fred (Mabel) Sedwick of Route 1, Sheridan, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, a half-brother, a sister and a half-sister are deceased.
Shirley served many local farmers as a cattle buyer and supplier. He hauled cattle between he local area and Chicago market for 25 years, retiring in 1862. The last 10 years he belonged to a club that races ponies. He attended Boone County schools and spent most of his life in Boone County.
He was of Baptist faith and a member of Boone Lodge No. 9 order of Masonic Lodge. We was a World War I Army veteran. Shirley was a former member of American Legion, Elks and Redmen Society.
The funeral is arranged for Thursday afternoon at 2 at Myers Chapel of Memories. Masonic rites are set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. The Rev. Raymond Duff will officiate at the funeral with burial to be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Calling is after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Mortuary. The family will be at the mortuary from 2 - 3 and 7 - 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Ruby L. Myers Shirley, 93, Sheridan, formerly of Lebanon, Mechanicsburg and Gadsen, died Friday. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Myers Mortuary, Lebanon., with calling from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
She was a member of Sedwick Chapel Methodist Church near Sheridan. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
She was the widow of Claude R. Shirley. Survivors: several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

I assume you are related since you posted a picture. I'm looking for a daughter of George & Mary King Maloney who married Alva B. Maloney in Owen Co. in 1923
Marjorie P. Berry Pfaff. There was at least 24 years difference in their ages so I assume she remarried again after Alva's death in 1948.
