|Wanda Alderman||RE: Shahan|
Thank you for the information. My sister in law is married to Dwayne Shahan.
I am working on some school pictures and ran across a Jack Shahan. Who might that be? I looked in Oakesdale Find A Grave and could not find him.

Marlena, I just received the following E-Mail from KEVIN FRYE, Andersonville Historican.
"Unfortunately, I can't find any record of Jens listed under any alternate spelling. He is not listed with the same Tennessee regiment as the other two and I can't find any soldier with any spelling that might be him. I have searched all Union states regiments and show no soldiers enlistd in any regiments with names beginning with Neeg besides this one.
George Neeger - Residence was not listed. Enlisted as a Private (date unknown). He had service in: "G" Co., US Army 12th Infantry.
Unless you can find a record that specifically shows the regiment in which he was enlisted into... I am afraid there is nothing more I can do."
Marlena, Do you know of any records that show what regiment Jens Heinrich Neergaard enlisted into?

I have registered the above at Find A Grave Memorial 133068470 at Andersonville (Sumpter Co., GA) I also mentioned a possible place of death at Marietta, Cobb Co., GA (Civil War) when I requested a picture of his tomb stone be taken.
Some research will have to be done by volunteer taking picture as I told them that I have not been able to locate any information as to his imprisonment at Andersonville even though I know it existed. At this point, Jens has been cross-referenced with his son, Richard Neergaard.
It will probably take a few days before it appears. Hopefully, this will prompt someone at the prison to start checking their records.

Marlena, I sent you a long E-mail to your other E-mail address (email@example.com)re: Rhoda Tuten's son marrying Richard Neergaard's daughter, Mary Jane Neergaard but it was returned. It showed how your family & my family are intertwined. Doroeck@AOL.com

Marlena, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your prompt answer.
Do you know if Richard Neergaard & his wife, Marietta, approved or disapproved of the marriage of their daughter, Harriette to Stanley Jones, stage manager? This may be an inappropriate question but I have an underlying feeling about it and it seems to be haunting me.
Richard & Marietta Neergaard, after having lost 3 of their children as infants, must have had
great hopes and expectations for their surviving three children. Was there any family gossip concerning this? Meanwhile, I am not faulting them because Richard Neergaard accomplished so much in his adult lifetime and I see evidence of much love and commitment in all of the family.
Please forgive me for asking the question if it disturbs you or if it is out of line.
Thank you again for your response. Doroeck@AOL.com

Betty Jane Hall Lisenee's Obit mentioned a daughter, Hassie Mae, who was born in Tennessee.
There is a possibility that you are related to this family and can tell me a little more about Hassie Mae. I know per the family tree that Hassie Mae was born 07 Dec 1897 and died 18 Apr 1983 in Sacramento, CA.
My research started in Roane, TN with Mary Etta Johnson (1812), Chumley, Coleman, Wiley, Tuten, Tinnel, Sharp, Neergaard, Hall, etc. My journey ended in Washington State. It has been an interesting trip and I have been able to document it along the way. I had one question as I followed the group from Roane, Tennessee to Washington. "What prompted the move, after the Civil War, to the West?" Was it the promise of free land and the fact that the economy in the South was at its lowest ebb. Now, I have another question, "Who is Hassie Mae and who did she marry?" She and I share the same middle name, "Mae".
My last question is, "Are you related to this family?". Sincerely, Dorothy Mae Eckert
