|Eighteen or nineteen years ago a friend told me she had a new hobby, genealogy, and how much fun she was having. I immediately contacted my mother who informed me that we owned three family Bibles. I have been deep into this ever since. I started with my mother's family in Loudoun County, VA. Her parents were third cousins, a fact she did not know. Of course I added my father's family, my husband's family, and both my daughter-in-law's and son-in-law's families. Then by adding wives, mothers, sisters, brothers, ancestors, descendants, I have ended up with a database of about 35,000. All are related to me or to someone I am related to.|
Most of my time has been spent in Loudoun County, Virginia. I wrote two books on Union Cemetery in Leesburg, a book on Monocacy Cemetery in Bealsville, Montgomery County, MD, Death Records of Fairfax County, VA, and co-authored books on the Death Records of Loudoun County, VA and Marriages after 1850 in Loudoun County, Va. I have also been involved in the preparation of Cemetery Books published by Thomas Balch Library. All of these books are available through Heritage Books.
I am more than happy to share any information I have. My cemetery pictures are there for anyone who needs them. They have been taken over the last 19 years. I will ask that you let me know if you are using a family picture because that means you are probably at least a cousin and I want to know you.
If you see errors, please let me know. Let's get all these people linked!

Thank you for the transfer of Bill and Linnie Wiley.
|Christine Long||Sarah A. Long|
Thanks so much for your hard work. It's such a valuable resource.
I just wanted to correct the entry for Sarah A. Long #58998907, in the Leesburg, VA graveyard. She was the first wife of Burgess Ball Long, whose name is on the other side of the monument you've shown. Melchoir Mason Long was their son and Eleanor (1836 - 1900) was one of their daughters. Sarah's maiden name was Sarah Ann Thompson. Melchoir was born 3/19/1838.
Many thanks, again!
Christine Long (direct descendant of Armistead Long, one of Burgess' brothers).

I made the additions, but I couldn't add Mt. Hope as it is not an option in the drop down.
I'd be glad to transfer her to you if you'd like.

Not only are Jimmy's paternal grandparents in New Hampshire, one aunt is in Alaska, where he spent an extended visit with her after college.An uncle is in southern Virginia. In Leesburg with his maternal grandparents he is closer to family, where his parents will join him.

Since Jimmy is the grandson of Edward N and Ruth C Bradfield and is buried in their plot, where his mother and my wife,their daughters, intend to be buried, you might post your photo of the Bradfield family stone to his memorial if you have the file handy. If you do not, I can "grab" it and post it myself if I may use your photo. My own parents are a few plots away and my siblings plan to join them. My sister wants to add a family stone with her husband's name. I do not want to be buried under any name but my own, so although Jane and I have been married for 50 years I shall join my first wife in Arlington NC, where she has held my place awaiting me since 1956, just a few graves away from one of my Naval Academy classmates who prepped with me for the entrance exam. I learned of Randy's death at Marian's funeral, when I stepped on or just beside his new marker as I turned from her grave.

FYI, tombstone photos of the Shreve Cemetery are available at the Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg Virginia. Digital scans can be ordered.
