RE: Sam Thaxton Haney
Hi. I am sorry, but I am not familiar with any of these persons. There are some Haneys and some Thaxtons in town and if I learn anything, I'll let you know. - Jack

Franklin Clarification
Help! :)

My husband is a descendant of William Henry Franklin. On Ancestry.com I show him married to Elizabeth Jane Franklin. I believe you took the pics of their headstones @ the Tula Cemetery in Lafayette County, MS. In that same cemetery are a John Franklin and Martha Jane Hopkins Franklin. They are listed as parents to Elizabeth Jane Franklin on Ancestry.com.

First of all, are they cousins or just a coincidence on the name?

Because her husband has a father named John (according to Ancestry.com but I'm not convinced it's right on the dates) married to a Mary Pearcy. All 4 show being from Bedford, VA. Both couples have marriage dates a few years apart in Bedford, VA. Not finding a way to clarify that both fathers were John (and hopefully not the same man) and their relation. I know that John and Martha's dates are correct because you have the pics of the headstones. Do you know anything about the other couple (parents of William Henry Franklin)?

Thank you for any help!!!

RE: Samuel Franklin
Thank you for answering! Yes, I found those but although ost of them are related, this isn't him. Hid father's name was John (born I believe in Virginia and grandpa Franklin said he was born in Mississippi. He said his Mother was born in Louisiana and her name was Mary, though as you've no doubt discovered there was more to her name or they could've just called her Mary, but she divorced his father. For this reason I'm stuck.

Mary lived with my Grandpa Franklin then remarried to Williams Burton of Virginia so she must have known people there, lived there. She's buried with him in Arkansas. I know the Samuel you found has the wrong dates and line. I found them. I grew up here on the family homestead from the 1800's and KNOW for sure the Franklin family here spreading out from Hugh Samuel and forward. I have a hunch who his father was but just can't put it together and document it. I believe it was John J. who lived briefly in Louisiana at the right time to marry and he married a lot! Finding the divorce would help but I haven't as yet. John J's first wife died in 1835 and there were marriages after that and more children from them.

Do you know very much about the Franklin genealogy? What/who is your direct line? I'll appreciate any help you can offer. I need to go through some trunks but those aren't from the Franklins.

Please let e know if you can help. You have a beautiful given name; I've noticed it before in my travels over our family! I look forward to hearing from you and as you know, sometimes it just takes a small clue to get where you're going.

Thank you.

Warmest Regards,
Nancy

The correct cemetery is Southland Cemetery not Old Southland. You show that she is the only person buried there. Southland cemetery is located adjacent to Southland Memorial Cemetery to the north.

Jake Haney Shiloh
Thanks for the information on Mr Haney, his son & wife. I added the information you sent me and also added the spouse & child links. I appreciate the information, are these your relatives? If so I would be happy to transfer them to you if you want. Do you know if Mr. Haney was in the logging business. My grt grandfather John Granvill Dalton and his brothers were in the logging business they are also buried at Shiloh. They may have known each other.

Dalton, Starnes Lawson Shiloh Cemetery
Hello, I received your message, I take alot of photos at Shiloh, I go there about 4 times year as my grandparent, grt gran parents and grt grt granparents are there as well as many aunts and uncles...I would be happy to share my family history with you, at least what I know, The Daltons I have in my family virtual as well as the Starnes are known to me as relatives but there may be more I am not aware of as there were very few records left for me to work with once my grandparents passed on. If you have any photo request from there I would be happy to look for them next time I go. write me anytime here or my personal email. Have a great day Angela
