Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a member of the Ivy Log Baptist Church. When asked to serve on the cemetery committee, I knew I could not work without a written record.
I needed a record of the graves in rows and plots. I spent a summer walking the cemetery recording those that were buried and those that had plots reserved.
I then found the find a grave web site. Rose Birdwell had started recording the cemetery but had stopped. My daughter and I finished recording the pictures. I have keep it updated since.
The Ivy Log Cemetery is the only cemetery I record. Our church was started in 1838, my husband's ancestors were among those first members.
I also have many ancestors in the Ivy Log Cemetery. The Lances,Daniels, Davenports and I am still researching others.

I'll try to send you what info I have. He's not on my direct line of Hoods (he's a distant cousin), but I will send some info of what I have that I hope is correct.

Re: Alvia Wallace
Hello: Just looking thru cemeteries this morning and happened upon this particular one. I remember a {Mr. Corn?) from a coupla years ago wanting info on Alvia. I told him both Alvia and his wife and son Tommy was deceased. His son Andy is still living and I saw him a coupla months ago and told him about it. He remembers going to decorations at the cemetery. I will give you the phone number he gave me. Hope he can provide information on his family for you.

The number is 864-612-9110. Its a cell and Andy drives a truck so you might have to leave a message. Hope this helps.....Poppy*

RE: Robert Lance
Thanks for checking on "Judge" Lance for me. I'm only very distantly related by marriage. His son Vernal Lee Lance, MD married Virginia Bair and the Bair family of Orangeburg, SC is one from which I descend and am trying to document as best I can. It was very hard tracking down Vernal Lee as the only thing I had was "Judge R. L. Lance" and the fact that Vernal was a doctor from Union County, GA mentioned in a marriage announcement in the Orangeburg paper. It was a bit of a challenge actually proving who he was and that he was from the Ivy Log area, although I had a hunch after searching on Find-a-Grave.
Cheers

Don Byers
Cecil Byers
Mazie, Cecil Byers(I don't know anything about a Cecil Bowers) was the adopted son of my Uncle Lawrence Byers and wife Lillian Hyatt(Hiatt). Cecil is buried at Harmony Grove Cem, Whitfield County GA. Cecil's widow, Otha, and two of the children visited briefly this year at the Decoration Day at Ivy Log Cemetery. They recognized Aunt Lela's old '55 Chev which I was driving and found me.
I have photos of Cecil's stone in the Byers History book if anyone needs it.
Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Lillian had two children who died of whooping cough when they lived in Catoosa County GA, those two kids are buried in unmarked graves somewhere over there. After that, they moved back to Union COunty to what is now Ivy Log Rd, close to Jack and Betty. MY grt-gnd parenta, P.C.(Cebe) and Sarah Jane Coffey Byers are buried there alongside Lawrence and Lillian. To my knowledge, no other Byerses are buried at Ivy Log. Aunts Ella Faye & Viola at Old Brasstown and Lela at Antioch. Aunt Pauline Byers Moss was one month shy of 106 y/o when she died 2010 Greensboro, NC.

Sincerely,
Don Byers

If I can help you any let me know!

Sincerely
