Joe - Thank you! Interesting read. I had read about the 13th being sent to New Creek before but this is much more detailed in the actions that occurred as part of the Confederate attacks. I have saved the story to a folder I maintain on the 13th VA. My GG Grandfather Ben Haines was in the 13th, prior to moving over to the 18th VA Cavalry. I have several soldiers identified in my family, both North and South, including one from near where the Martz's lived - Charles Twigg who was from Oldtown - was in the 2nd Potomac Home Brigade, which I believe had some of the same duties the Colonials had - protecting the train bridges and the C%O Canal. You are correct. I'm looking for information on her grandmother. Margaret Ann Fleek born abt. 1866 in Mineral County, West Virgina. I realize I'm just taking a shot in the dark. My grandmother was Olive Frances McKenzie (Fortney). Born 1889. Her mother was Margaret Ann Fleek McKenzie, wife of Charles Winfield McKenzie. I've hit a brick wall trying to find any information about Margaret Ann Fleek. Any information would be great. I've added a photo of Charles W. McKenzie's grave marker. I can only assume she is burried with him. I don't believe the stone has her information in Philos Cemetary. I live Just outside of Cumberland and my email is delawde@verizon.net .
