Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've been doing my family's genealogy for over 30 years, and am grateful to all those who either helped directly or who have posted info in various places which has helped. I try to pay it forward so others can learn about our shared families.

I am researching, in western NC (and occasionally eastern TN along the NC-TN border): Wheeler, Honeycutt, Hensley, Hampton, Byrd, Silver, Ray, and other associated families.

And in the area where southwest GA, southeast AL, and north FL intersect: Hurst, Davis, Bozeman, Stewart, Swearingen, Perry, and other associated families. Some of this research also extends a little further north and NE into GA, and also a little farther east into AL.

With a couple of exceptions, all the memorials I manage are indeed family members - so unless you are a child or grandchild of someone who is NOT one of my grands I prefer to retain management of the memorial. If you are that child or grandchild, of course I will turn them over to you - those who enter memorials on this site should not be proprietary about what is not theirs. (The exceptions are Luna & Robert Wiggins who are interred in the private Davis Cemetery in GA, to whom I am not related in any way - this is the burial site of my Davis ggg-grand and his 2nd wife and I didn't want to leave the Wigginses off the cemetery listing in case their descendants come looking for them).

Please remember to "pay it forward" when you are asked for help - none of us genealogy researchers would make progress without either the work of others they have made available or without the direct help of other researchers.

Albert Olmstead
Janet,
I'm the Olmste(a)d family genealogist and the Albert that married Hattie Wheeler is otherwise unknown in our records. Their Cumberland Co. marriage license looks as if his name was written Almstead witht he A overwritten to O but at the bottom it was not changed and still looks like a capital A.

Hattie and her second husband A.B. Wheeler had two sons: Joseph (1926, Cumberland Co,. NC - 1992, Jacksonville, FL) and Herbert (1928-1930 Cumberland Co.) A.B. died in 1932 and she quickly married Albert A/Olmstead. I could not find them in the 1940 census but her son Herbert may be the one in the Stonewall Jackson Boys School (Cabarrus Co., NC) who was living in Cumberland Co. in 1935.

On Hatties Find A Grave bio. when I saw the reference to Jacksonville I first thought NoCar, as it is not far from Ft. Bragg, until I checked the cemetery and see that it is Florida where she had lived, married A.B. and returned to.

You give Albert with a middle name Oliver and as Sr. I can find to reason to believe he is the Albert Olilver Olmstead, b 17 Nov 1892 in St. Joe, MO nor the Albert Coleman Olmstead b. 31 Jul 1891 in Cassell, WI who is listed on some ancestry.com trees as the married to Hattie. And if he is "Sr." do you have any indication of a "Jr."?

I appreciate what you are doing and I'll be glad to share more information. You are welcome to contact me directly at WaltSteesy@aol.com

Janet,

Here is my connection to Mary LaMoyne Shalley who I believe was married to William S. Blackall.

LaMoyne was married to Roy Campbell, my grandfather, who was born in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana.

LaMoyne filed for divorce from Roy in May 1941 Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

Roy Campbell and LaMoyne’s divorce was granted September 14, 1942.

Her parents Clay and Ethel Shalley raised my mother, Marguerite Campbell Martin in Hollandsburg, Indiana.

William Seymour Blackall (born in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana - same as my grandfather) and was in Parke County in 1942.

William Seymour Blackall’s draft card information (attached) shows:

B. 1/30/1880 Columbus, Indiana - 62 years old.

He is living at RR#1, Rockville, Indiana – this is the Hollandsburg, Indiana area where Lamoyne’s family resided.

Name: William Seymour Blackall

I believe there is a Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana and a Parke County, Indiana connection.

I corresponded with Barbara Yount on RootsWeb a few years back. I asked her if she had any actual documentation on any of the marriages of Lamoyne. She did not.

To the best of my relocation it was her mother or mother in law and Mary LaMoyne’s mother, Ethel Shalley that were neighbors in Hollandsburg, Parke County, Indiana. Her connection was through the Shalley family and her information came from these conversations.

She also told me that “LaMoyne & Bill Blackall along with Ralph & Golda Alexander (Hollandsburg) traveled to Oak Ridge, Tennessee to work during the war.”

Additionally Lamoyne’s 4th husband Arthur Pearson’s obituary (attached) lists her name as Mary LaMoyne Blackall.

Arthur Pearson Obituary:

Arthur M. Pearson, a Montgomery County native who lived at Greencastle, was dead on arrival at Putnam County Hospital Friday evening, a victim of a heart attack.

Mr. Pearson had previously lived at Crawfordsville and in Texas.

The retired farmer was born May 22, 1907, a son of Alfred and Josie Dison Pearson. He was first married to Mildred B. Hudson in 1928. She died in 1955. He was married Mary LaMoyne Blackall in 1956. She died in 1970.”

The link was added by the owner of Mary Pearson memorial. I have sent them an email asking them to remove the link or send documentation of marriage. It should not affect you adding any other family links.

Rev Elisha Davis
Hello Irene,
It's nice to meet you! I thought I would help you out by letting you know I also descend from Rev. Elisha Davis through his first wife, Sarah Roe? Powell. In your list of their children I descend from the child who you are uncertain of, and listed as a male, with a possible name of Lewis? This is a miss transcription of my great great grandmother's name...Louisa Jane Davis. She was married to James E. Green. I descend from their son, George Washington Green. He was married to Elcey Lougenia Edmondson. I descend from George and Elcey's youngest child, Ann Ella Green, who was married to Jodie Willie Parker. Ann Ella and Jodie are my maternal grandparents. Cuz? Kathy Jo Bryant

RE: re: Carey Elbe Silver
Fairmount is a very interesting cemetery, a lot has gone on there in 130 years. I did a photo request that involved plot #2F-10. Their was conflicting information about who was buried there. When I looked into the old plot books, I ran into the notation about Carey Silver being moved and that the plot had been resold. When I checked to see if he had a memorial page I found your page for him with the story on it about him being moved, since I had the information in hand, I went ahead and posted it to his page. Anyway I kind of stumbled into this by accident and having solved the mystery posted photos for both the request and for Carey Silver. Fortunately the folks in the Fairmount office are very helpful.

RE: Caroline Stewart #122617888 photo request in Simms Cemetery
Irene
I just left Sims Cemetery. Caroline's grave is paired with Jphn's. Just two pieces of the headstone remain plus some of the base. Nevertheless, she is located where the survey says she should be. I'll upload the photos when I get home.

RE: Caroline Stewart #122617888 photo request in Simms Cemetery
Irene,

I'm going to Sims Cemetery this coming week and I'll do your photo request. Note that Caroline is not listed on a 2001 plot survey but her husband, John, is listed. The entry next to John is listed as UNKNOWN. However, she is listed on a 1956 alphabetical survey of the cemetery.
So, if the unknown grave is paired with John's grave, then it will be her and I'll fulfill the request. If it is not paired, I'll send you the photo(s) and you can add them if you wish. That's OK with me. I may need your email address. I'll also forward links to both surveys.
